*** ThrustMaster Systems ***
MechWarrior 2: The Clans supports the ThrustMaster FCS (Joystick),
WCS Mark II and RCS (Rudder Pedals).
The following controls are available on the FCS:
Weapon Fire = Main trigger
Weapon Selection = Upper thumb
Track View = Lowest left button and lower left thumb button
Cockpit View = Lowest left button and trigger button
The HAT on the FCS will select left, right, and up views from within the
Cockpit.
From Track view the Hat will move the camera view around your Mech.
This feature is only available with the FCS but will be available
from the keyboard in the full product version.
Rudder Pedals will control the twisting of the Torso (left and right).
The Torso calibration is done at the time your joystick is calibrated.
Currently the torso will move to the left when you push the left pedal
and right with the right pedal. To some players this has felt backward,
if you like, you can reverse this order by re-calibrating the pedals
backwards ('ALT-J').
The Mark II WCS is supported only when user programmed. If you
own a Mark II WCS, please refer to your manual for programming
instructions. We are not directly supported by the Mark I WCS.
Use all lower case letters when programming keyboard commands.
*** Cyberman ***
MechWarrior 2 fully supports the Cyberman by Logitech in the following
way:
Left Button = Fires selected weapon
Right Button = Change weapons
Pitch Forward = Increase throttle
Pitch Back = Decrease throttle
Roll Left = Left view
Roll Right = Right view
Z-Up = Up view (pull up)
Yaw Left = Turn torso left
Yaw Right = Turn torso right
Z-Down = Center torso (push down)
Targeting the Mech is controlled by moving the Cyberman Up and Down
within the X and Y axis square.
*** Mouse ***
Targeting is controlled by forward and back mouse movement
Left Mouse button = Fire selected weapon
Right Mouse button = Change weapons
Note: The center mouse button will fire Jump Jets if the Mech is
so equipped. (The Mechs in this demo are not so equipped)
TROUBLE SHOOTING INFORMATION
If the Demo will not work, verify that your CONFIG.SYS file contains the
line DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS The HIMEM.SYS file comes with DOS 5, DOS 6,
and WINDOWS. (DRDOS 6.0 comes with HIDOS.SYS which can be used instead
of HIMEM.SYS)
WARNING: Always have a working boot disk before modifying the CONFIG.SYS
or AUTOEXEC.BAT files on your hard drive
*** Low Memory Problems ***
If you are having problems getting enough free RAM to run the demo, try
creating a boot disk. (Refer to the DOS manual that came with your system)
Creating a boot disk involves formatting a new floppy disk, creating the
CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files, and rebooting your machine with the
disk in the correct drive. This process will change depending on your
DOS version and system requirements. An example of an optimum CONFIG.SYS
and AUTOEXEC.BAT is as follows:
Example CONFIG.SYS file
-----------------------
DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
DOS=HIGH
DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS FRAME=E000
DOS=UMB
DEVICEHIGH=(Add your sound card device driver on this line. Some sound
card device drivers may not allow you to load them high.)
FILES=30
BUFFERS=20,0
FCBS=4,0
STACKS=0,0
LASTDRIVE=(Next letter of the highest drive you have on your system)
Example AUTOEXEC.BAT file
-------------------------
@ECHO OFF
PROMPT $P$G
PATH C:\;C:\DOS;C:\WINDOWS
(Add your sound card parameters on this line.)
LOADHIGH (Add your mouse driver on this line.)
Note: You may also type MWCONFIG at the prompt of the drive containing
the Demo disk to automatically create a boot disk with the above
mentioned paramaters. Please have a blank disk ready if you use
the MWCONFIG command. !! REMEMBER !! You will need to add your
sound card and mouse device drivers to the AUTOEXEC.BAT and
CONFIG.SYS that are created.
*** Distorted Digital Audio with IRQ 7 ***
If your sound card is using IRQ 7 and you get choppy digital sound, change
to another free IRQ. IRQ 5 has been found to be best. This problem is most
common in systems with IDE/MULTI I/O cards.
*** No Sound From The ProAudio Spectrum ***
Verify that the sound card driver MVSOUND.SYS is included in
the device driver line of your CONFIG.SYS. Insure that MVSOUND.SYS
device driver line is also included in the CONFIG.SYS on your boot disk.
*** Game Locks With Digital Audio ***
Check for a conflict between the sound card and another card. Run
INSTALL and disable digital sounds. Consult the sound card manual for
information on resolving IRQ, I/O, and DMA conflicts with other cards
in your system.
*** ThrustMaster Hat Is Not Working ***
Verify that your joystick card supports two joysticks. Joysticks with
throttles can not be used with Y-cables or with cards that support only
one joystick. Make sure that you do not have TWO joystick cards in your
machine. If your Sound Card has a joystick port, AND your Multi I/O card
has a joystick port, disable the joystick port on the Multi I/O card.
PRODUCER/DESIGNER'S NOTES
We hope you enjoy our demo, we are very excited about the upcoming
release of MechWarrior 2: The Clans.
MechWarrior 2: The Clans is a 3D combat simulator based on the
BattleTech (TM) universe from FASA. There are far too many feature and
design elements in the product for me to cover here but I will try to
give you a brief summary of the product features.
1. The product will require a 386DX-33 or faster computer
with 4 MB of RAM. We are implementing several settings that will
allow the product to run well on the lowest speed machines.
As a gamer I recommend a very fast 486 or P5 with a great video board.
2. There is a full career section to the game, based on the Clan military.
we have selected six of the most powerful Clans.
Clan Wolf, Jade Falcon, Smoke Jaguars,
Nova Cats, Ghost Bears & Steel Vipers.
Source books are available from your local book store or FASA if you
are interested in learning more about the Clans and the game behind the
game.
3. The Mech Plant will allow you to create/modify any Mech in the product
from the engine system up and then try it out on the battlefield. We also
support a text dump of the Mech information for those board game players
who choose to use the Mech Plant in connection with the board game.
Mech's can also be imported, exported, and traded with other MW2 players
4. Modem/Direct Connect will allow players to hook-up and play head to head
or play in co-op mode. Players can chat prior to entering combat to
establish any special rules or to exchange insults. Chat is also supported
during combat to encourage interpersonal communication while kicking the
$%#@ out of your buddy.
5. I felt it was necessary to tell you what is not represented in this demo
but will be in the final product.
*** Known Problems ***
1. The Marauder's and Adder's weapon assignments do not match the weapon
assignments shown in the Holoviewer. You will have more weapons than
those displayed in the Holoviewer.
2. The armor, heat and speed settings for the Mech's are not balanced
correctly, and may not exactly match the Holoviewer information.
It will be very difficult to destroy the Adder, he is well armed,
fast and smart.
3. If you experience problems with the cockpit images disappearing, this is
most likely a low memory problem. Please refer to the trouble shooting
section for more information.
4. On slower machines, in the Adder VS Adder mission, the computer
controled Adder will rapidly turn his torso left and right. This is
a targeting problem and will be corrected. We have also seen a
situation where the computer controlled Adder will stop unexpectantly
on the field and appear to wait for the player to wail on him. This is
a logic bug and will be corrected.
*** Mech's and Artwork ***
There are 20 Mech's in the final product, you will only see two in the
demo and only a few screens of the hundreds of pieces of
artwork created for the product.
*** Targeting and HUD displays ***
This area is different in a couple of ways.
1. You will be able to target specific areas of the enemy Mechs with all
of the line of sight weapons in the game.
2. Different weapons will have different types of targeting reticle based
on the type of special equipment you may have installed on your mech.
*** Cockpit Displays ***
With exception to the weapon text and such, none of the cockpit displays
are final. Your Mechs damage will be displayed by area and given you have
the right equipment or are close enough to your enemy you will also
see the damaged areas of the enemy Mechs. Mech system information,
weapon information, etc. will also be available from the cockpit.
*** Autopilot and Nav Points ***
The autopilot feature is enabled but is not very useful in the demo.
Since objectives and locations will be called out via NAV points in
your breifings in the real game, the autopilot will play a more
signifigant role in navigation and mission completion in the final
product.
*** 386 Users ***
The demo does not support multi levels of detail, nor the
capability of turning off any of the processor intensive aspects of the
product. We are attempting to make sure that the those users that have the
lowest machine specs are still rewarded with a rich, fun product.
I would like to hear from those of you who have comments and questions
about the product. I am also interested in any problems you may
have with the demo. Please send us your commnents and suggestions as
we are very interested in making MechWarrior 2: The Clans the best product
it can be.
Thank you in advance for your feedback.
