  3. Welcome to the March 1994 edition of the Project Gutenberg CDROM!
  4.  
  5. This CD-ROM contains the etexts (Electronic Texts) of the Gutenberg Project
  6. for 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, and the first month of 1994.
  7.  
  8. Most of the texts are provided in both ascii and zip archives.  
  9. Here are some important files and directories.

  13. view.exe        Program to view, copy, and unzip files on the disc

  28.             USING THE VIEW PROGRAM
  29.  
  30. To use this disc, merely change drives to your CD-ROM drive, then
  31. type "VIEW" in the root directory of the CD-ROM drive, then press
  32. enter.  The VIEW program will then display a listing of the
  33. subdirectories and their description on the disc.  Use the cursor
  34. keys to move the highlight bar up and down the screen, then press
  35. ENTER to change into any of the subdirectories.  The VIEW program
  36. will then display a list of files within that particular
  37. subdirectory.  (To return back to the subdirectory listing, press the
  38. ESCAPE key.)
  39.  
  40. While in the list of files, the VIEW program can let you read a text
  41. file, uncompress a zipped file, or copy a file onto another drive.  
  42.  
  43. To read a text file, merely position the highlight bar onto the line
  44. with the filename you wish to read, then press ENTER.  While reading
  45. the document, if you wish to search for a string, press either the
  46. "S" key, CONTROL-S (type "S" while holding down the Control key), or
  47. F9 then enter the string for which you wish to search.  For further
  48. occurrences of the string, merely press the S key, CONTROL-S, or F9
  49. key.  You may do reverse searches by pressing R, CONTROL-R, or F10 in
  50. the same manner.

  52. To uncompress a file, position the highlight bar onto the line with
  53. the filename you wish to uncompress, then press ENTER.  The screen
  54. will change to ask you to where you wish to uncompress the file, the
  55. default being a directory on your C: drive.  If you wish, you may
  56. edit this destination box.  Press ENTER to begin uncompressing the
  57. file, or press ESCAPE to abort.  After uncompressing, you will have
  58. the option to either exit out to the directory to which the VIEW
  59. program uncompressed the file, or to return to the menu; if you
  60. decide to return the menu, be sure to remember to where the file was
  61. uncompressed!

  63. To copy a file, position the highlight bar onto the line with the
  64. wish to copy, then press ENTER.  The screen will change to ask you to
  65. where you wish to copy the file, the default being a directory on
  66. your C: drive.  If you wish, you may edit this destination box.
  67. Press ENTER to copy the file, or press ESCAPE to abort.  After
  68. copying, you will have the option to either exit out to the directory
  69. to which the VIEW program copied the file, or to return to the menu;
  70. if you decide to return the menu, be sure to remember to where the
  71. file was copied!
