INTRODUCTION
The Address Jr. Program designed by Lesko Software
is a versatile and easy to use program that the whole
family can use. Each family member can keep up with the
names, addresses and phone numbers of friends, family,
club memberships and guest lists. Businesses can keep
up with customer lists. There is even a handy NOTE line
for special notations.
You begin the Address Jr. program by entering
ADDJR at the DOS prompt. The possible selections from
the main menu of the the Address Jr. Program are ADD,
CHANGE, DELETE, FIND, LIST, SEARCH, and ESC (to exit).
ADD - The ADD feature allows you to add a name
to the list.
CHANGE - The CHANGE feature allows you to change
an entry.
DELETE - The DELETE features allow you to delete
an entry.
LIST - The LIST feature allows you to list all
the names alphabetically that are presently
in the list.
FIND - The FIND feature allows you to find a
particular individual by name and to print
the information on the printer, or to print
an envelope to be mailed.
SEARCH - The SEARCH feature allows you to search for a
name (or group of names) by last name, or
first name, or street, or city, or state, or
zip code, or note. You can print during the
search operation, so for instance, you can
search for and print all names and addresses
of people with your last name (i.e., relatives).
Or all people in the State of Texas.
Each of these topics is covered in more detail below.
COLOR
The ADDJR program normally runs in color but if
you want to run in BLACK and WHITE mode, there is a
way you can do that. When you enter ADDJR at the DOS
prompt you will first see a copyright statement.
Notice at this point you must press any key to begin
to use the ADDJR program. If you press "B" the ADDJR
program will run in BLACK and WHITE mode only.
Any other key will cause it to run in color. That is...
any other key except one. The Ctrl-A key.
MAXIMUM NUMBER OF ADDRESSES
When you first start the ADDJR program by entering
ADDJR at the DOS prompt, you will see a copyright statement.
If you press the Control key and while holding it down,
press the "A" the ADDJR program will check your computer
to see the maximum number of addresses ADDJR can maintain
in your computer.
--------------------------------------------------------
FROM THE MAIN MENU:
TO ADD A NAME ...
1. Select ADD from the Main Menu by pressing "A".
2. Enter the LAST NAME and press enter.
3. Enter the FIRST NAME and press enter.
4. Enter the STREET ADDRESS and press enter.
5. Enter the TOWN and press enter.
6. Enter the two letter STATE abbreviation and
press enter.
7. Enter the ZIP CODE and press enter.
8. Enter the AREA CODE and press enter.
9. Enter the TELEPHONE NUMBER and press enter.
10. Next, you may enter anything on the NOTE line
you wish or leave blank. This is a great place to put
"Bridge". Then you can SEARCH on Bridge and locate each
person in your Bridge Club. The SEARCH feature will
also allow you to print address labels for letters to
Bridge Club members.
11. Press enter. You will be asked to select
SAVE, TRY AGAIN or RETURN WITHOUT SAVING. If you press
SAVE you will temporarily save the new information in
memory. This will not save it to the disk. When you
exit the program (by pressing Escape) you will be asked
"Do you want to save the changes made?" More about
this later. If you make a mistake entering information,
press TRY AGAIN to start over. Press RETURN WITHOUT
SAVING to return to the Main Menu.
TO CHANGE INFORMATION ...
Let's say a friend moves or get's married and
changes their name. Information can be changed easily
with the Address Jr. Program.
1. Select CHANGE INFORMATION from the Main Menu by
pressing "C".
2. Enter the last name of the person whose
information you want to change followed by a space and
then enter their first name. The first person on your
list who has that name is shown.
3. You are then asked if this is the person whose
information needs changing. Enter "Y" for YES or "N"
NO.
If you enter YES, you are then given the option
of changing each item, line by line. For each line
that no change is required, press ENTER and no change
will be made. For each line that a change is required,
simply type in the new information. If the last name
is changed, it will automatically be re-alphabetized.
If you enter NO when asked if this is the
person whose information needs changing, the next
person on your list with that name will appear.
Remember, any changes you make will be saved
temporarily in memory, not on the disk. Changes you
make will only be saved to the disk when you QUIT the
program and are asked if you want to save the changes
you made.
4. When entering a person's name that you want to
change, you may also enter a partial name. For example,
if you enter "Jon", the first name the program finds for
you to change might be "Andy Jonas". If you answer 'N'
(you don't want to change this name), the program might
find "Peter Jonas", then "Dan Jones", then "Fred Jones",
then "Randy Jones"... before you say, 'Y' (yes) this is
the name I want to change.
TO DELETE A NAME ...
1. Select DELETE from the Main Menu by pressing "D".
2. Enter the last name of the person to be deleted.
Press enter.
3. The name of the first person on your list with
that last name is shown. If this is the person you
want to delete, press "Y" for YES or "N" for NO. If
you press YES, the name is automatically deleted. If
you press NO, the next name of the person on your list
with that last name will appear.
4. Remember, if you enter YES to delete a name, it
will not be deleted on the disk; only in memory. The
name will be deleted on the disk only after you QUIT the
program if you answer 'Yes', to the question "Do you want
to save the changes you made?"
TO FIND A NAME ...
The FIND feature allows you to locate a name and
print it on a small or large envelope.
1. Select FIND from the Main Menu by pressing "F".
Press Enter.
2. Enter the last name (or any portion of the last
name). You may follow the last name with the first name,
separated by a space. Press Enter.
3. The name and address of the person you entered
will appear on the screen.
4. You will be asked:
Do you want this address printed on the printer? y/n
If you answer "Y" then you will be asked:
Do you want to address an envelope? y/n
If you answer "N" for NO, the name and address will
simply be printed on the printer exactly where the
paper is located when you pressed the "N".
Now let's look at printing an envelope.
PRINTING AN ENVELOPE
If you answered YES, when you were asked:
Do you want to address an envelope? y/n
then you will be asked:
Print Return Address? y/n
If you answer "Y" a return address will be printed on
the envelope. Enter "N" if you do not want a return
address printed. You may be wondering how the ADDJR
knows your address. That will be explained later.
Next, you will be asked:
Large envelope or Small envelope?
Enter "L" for large or "S" for small... and ADDJR will
immediately begin printing... so have the envelope in
place before pressing "L" or "S".
RETURN ADDRESS
How does the program know your return address?
The program reads a file named ADDRESS.RTN and prints
the first four lines of that file. You can use any
wordprocessor program to change that file and put
YOUR return address on the first four lines of the
file. Or You can use COPY CON: to create the
ADDRESS.RTN file. See your DOS manual for instructions
for using COPY CON:
Basically, at the DOS prompt, you simply enter
COPY CON:ADDRESS.RTN and press Enter. Everything you
enter into the keyboard after you press Enter will be
copied into the file named address.rtn. When you have
entered your address, press Ctrl-Z and the file will
be closed and you will be returned to the DOS prompt.
Ctrl-Z means press the Control Key and hold it down
while you press the 'Z' Key.
TO LIST NAMES ...
1. Select LIST from the Main Menu by pressing "L".
2. All of the names in your list will be listed
alphabetically by last name. Twenty names will appear
on the display. Press ESC to return to the main menu,
or any other key to see the next 20 names in the list.
TO SEARCH FOR A NAME ...
1. The SEARCH feature is handy because you can
search for people or groups of people by Area Code,
First or Last Name, State, Town, Zip Code or even
Note. Simply select which category you want to search
by selecting the appropriate first letter of that
category .
For example, to search by Area Code, select "A"
from the Search Menu. You are then asked to enter the
entire three digit Area Code. After you enter it,
press Enter and all those names in that Area Code will
be listed.
2. To search by Name (first or last), State, Town,
Zip Code or Note, simply select that category by
selecting the appropriate first letter of that category
and then entering all or part of that information.
3. If you wish to obtain a Tennis Club list and
have entered "Tennis Club" in the Note section of each
Tennis Club member, enter all or part of "Tennis Club"
and a list will be displayed. Notice there is a very
subtle difference between searching the Note entry
and all other entries. Search will find "Tennis" in the
Note field no matter where it is located... but in other
fields it will only be found if it is the first word.
For instance, if the address is:
One Tennis World Ave. -- Tennis will not be found
But, if the address is:
Tennis Circle -- Tennis will be found
If the Note is:
Play this guy in tennis -- Tennis will be found
Note also: The case of the letter does not matter.
4. The SEARCH feature also gives you the option
of turning on the printer to print your SEARCH
findings. Each time you press "P" the printer will
toggle on or off. When the printer is on, each time
you press "W" you will toggle the "print telephone
number" feature. Why "W"??? you might be asking right
now. Well if you are running the ADDJR program and
looking at the display right now its clear, isn't it?
5. You can also change the spacing between
printed names and addresses in the SEARCH function.
This is helpful when printing address labels. Press
"C" to change the spacing. You will then be asked how
many spaces you want between names and address. Enter
this number. (Spacing is currently 1.)
6. You have the option in the SEARCH function of
having the Display stop or scroll when full. Press
"D" to indicate whether or not you want the display to
stop or scroll when full. It is nice to have the
display stop when you want to read the names as they
appear on the screen. But if you are in the process
of printing 1000 address labels, you probably want the
labels to continue to print rather than stop each time
the display if full.
TO QUIT THE ADDRESS JR. PROGRAM ...
1. Press ESCAPE (ESC) to quit.
2. You will be asked if you want to save any
changes (including additions and deletions) you just
made. Press "Y" for YES; "N" for NO. If you do not
save the changes you have just made, the names and
addresses will remain on the disk as they were before
you began this session of the ADDJR program.
Our goal at Lesko Software is
to enhance the quality of your life.
Have Fun!
Hope you enjoy the program and keep life fun.
--------------------------------------------------------
Address Jr. is a perfect program for your child to learn
to keep track of names, addresses & phone numbers. If
you have purchased Address Jr. for your child, we want
you to know of other programs we have in our Child
Education Line, such as:
"Let's Go Spell",
computer aided instruction in
learning to spell words, and
"Birthday"
to keep track of birthdays.
--------------------------------------------------------
If you are using Address Jr. and find that your address
list has grown to several thousand and Address Jr. will
not maintain that many addresses, we have developed
Address Sr. which not only manages more names, by also
handles multiple address lines, codes, and notes, and
more easily handles foreign addresses and phone numbers.
