| ANS2COM 3.0 |
+-------------+
This program automates the conversion of ANSI graphics to COM files.
To use, type ANS2COM FILENAME <CR> where "FILENAME" is the name of
an ANSI graphic file which has the extension ANS. Do not type the
extension. Example: with MARTIAN.ANS, type ANS2COM MARTIAN <CR> and
the conversion will take place.
ANSI GRAPHICS
^^^^^^^^^^^^^
This package contains 9 ANSI graphics files which are easily dis-
played on the screen if an ANSI driver, such as ANSI.SYS, is loaded.
ANSI must also be loaded to run ANS2COM. If not, use a text editor
to add the words DEVICE=ANSI.SYS to your CONFIG.SYS file. Make sure
the file ANSI.SYS is in your root directory. If you do not have a
CONFIG.SYS file, create and save a text file consisting of the words
DEVICE=ANSI.SYS, name the file CONFIG.SYS, and place it in your root
directory. If you use a word processor be sure to save the file in
ASCII (DOS text save). Once the above is accomplished your computer
must be reset or restarted to load ANSI. You will then find that
you may display any ANSI file by typing it to your screen. For ex-
ample, view the file BELINDA.ANS by typing: TYPE BELINDA.ANS <CR>.
It is possible that your system has a different version of ANSI,
such as NANSI.SYS. If so, substitute that name for ANSI.SYS in the
CONFIG.SYS file.
ADVANTAGES OF COM FILES
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
1. The graphic flashes onto the screen instead of being "painted"
to the screen from top to bottom or left to right.
2. All 25 lines of the screen are available for the graphic, and no
DOS prompt appears on the screen with the graphic.
3. The user does not have to have an ANSI driver, such as ANSI.SYS,
installed to view the graphic.
4. If DIET.EXE is present ANS2COM automatically accesses it to com-
press the COM file. The resulting COM file will be much smaller
than the original ANSI file.
5. The graphic disappears from the screen at once when ESC is
touched.
6. A slide show effect may be created by "stacking" a series of
screens with the use of a batch file. The example batch file
STACKEM.BAT is enclosed. After you have converted the 9 enclosed
ANSI files to COM files, run STACKEM. If fewer than 9 COMs are
present a brief "error message" will display. This is harmless.
7. When you run ANS2COM you will have the option of adding your own
words of greeting which will be automatically centered on the bot-
tom line (line 25) in your choice of colors.
8. On most systems ANS2COM lets you add a colored border. Amazingly,
the border is outside the text and graphics area of the screen.
OTHER FILES NEEDED
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
In addition to ANS2COM.EXE the following two files must be present:
AUTOCOM.COM
ANS2DEB.EXE
Additionally, if Teddy Matsumoto's great program DIET.EXE is pres-
ent, ANS2COM will automatically use it to compress each COM file as
it is created. It is available on CompuServe and elsewhere. Compu-
Serve has it in Lib. 6 of the IBMSYS forum. Get it!
USAGE HELP
^^^^^^^^^^
Typing ANS2COM <CR> will provide a reminder message on use of the
program.
ANSI FILES SUPPORTED
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
ANSI graphics with blinking-character animation are supported by
ANS2COM. Multiple-overlay animation is not supported. If the lat-
ter type is used, only its final screen will appear in the COM file.
THIS TIG FILE
^^^^^^^^^^^^^
After you have worked with ANS2COM you may want to try your hand at
creating scrollable files like this. This is a Rexxcom TIG (text in
graphics) COM file. It was made with AUTODOC and AUTOCOM, available
from CompuServe, private BBSes and catalogs. AUTODOC is usually
listed as ADOC or ADSW. AUTOCOM is normally listed as A-COM. On
CompuServe they are in Library 10 of the IBMAPP forum; use Rexxcom
as a keyword to find these files. Get both complete files.
THIS IS SHAREWARE
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
This entire file package may be freely copied for friends, and it
may be posted on bulletin board services (BBSs). After a brief
trial period of several days, if you like and make use of the pro-
gram, please become a registered user by sending $15.00 to Rexxcom
Systems, PO Box 111, Schooleys Mtn., NJ 07870. Your name will be
permanently listed as a registered user, you will receive the latest
version of the program plus additional ANSI graphics files, and
other excellent Rexxcom programs. Please print REGISTER.TXT, fill
out the registration form which will be produced on your printer,
and mail it soon. Thank you.
