Introduction
CDPQS is a small program which will get your CD-ROM player to
start playing a CD Audio disc. It is so simple to use, even a
child can use it. However, in order to use it at all, you have
to have the following:
- A IBM Compatible computer
- A CD-ROM drive capable of audio output
- MSCDEX v2.1 or later
Running CDPQS
If you have the three above items, you can run CDPQS. However,
before you do, make sure there is a CD Audio disc in the drive.
CDPQS will run and will print some user information. It will
then report back the lowest and highest track numbers on your
disc.
You will be asked to enter the highest track number you want to
hear.
For example, let's say that the disc you put in has tracks 1
through 14. Say you want to listen to tracks 1 through 5. Enter
1 as the lowest track number, and for the highest track number
enter 5. CDPQS will play tracks 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.
If you only want to listen to one track, enter that track number
as both the lowest and the highest track number.
Once you have done this, CDPQS will start playing the music and
will dump you back to the DOS prompt. Now you can sit back and
enjoy music while computing!

User Notes
CDPQS was written in Turbo C++. It was written using a Sony CDU-
510 CD-ROM drive, MSCDEX v 2.1, MS-DOS 5.0, and an 8088 IBM Com-
patible computer.
CDPQS should work correctly with ANY CD-ROM drive, provided the
driver program manufacturer has stuck with the Microsoft CD ROM
Extensions Device Driver specifications. CDPQS does not talk to
the drive, like some drive specific programs do, but talks to the
CD-ROM extensions which in turn talks with the drive. This makes
for a more compatible program. If, after you have tried every-
thing you know of to get the program running, and it still does
not work correctly then WRITE US A LETTER! We want to know!
Please include the following information to us in your letter:
- a printed copy of your AUTOEXEC.BAT file
- a printed copy of your CONFIG.SYS file
- what version of MSCDEX you are running
We will try our darndest to help you get the program running.
If CDPQS returns 0/0 for lowest and highest track numbers, enter
a number greater than 100 for the highest track number to play.
CDPQS will return the CD-ROM drive letter. If this is incorrect,
something is wrong with the way you have MSCDEX set up.
Versions Released
CDPQS
Version Date Changes made
1.12SR 920118 Changed some typos. Program is now
included in the CDPlay release package.
1.11SR 920109 Made changes to advertisment and added
delay.
1.10SR 911210 Problem of drive not reading finally
fixed. Thanks Frank Gunja!
1.09S 911210 Correction made to documentation.
Not released.
1.08B 911210 Finally decided to get rid of the SETUP
program. CDPQS now autodetects what
drive to use.
1.07B 911208 Think we have it fixed. BETA version
sent to Frank Gunja for testing on his
computer. Problem seems to be with the
config file. Not sure what it is.
1.07B* 911207 Beta version! Problem with CDPSETUP
again! This is really irking me now.
(not released).
1.06R 911206 Registered version information added to
program. Program compiles with infor-
mation included.
1.05S 911204 Made a major fix. Seems that CDPSETUP
works fine - when I run it from within
TC++. For some reason, it writes data
in text mode, CDPQS tries to read it in
binary. Makes for some confusion. Also
fixed the "(A=0, B=1...)" message in
CDPSETUP...I got rid of it.
1.04S* 911127 Forgot to change name of config file in
CDPSETUP. Also changed the way you tell
CDPSETUP what drive your CD-ROM is. Now
you tell it the drive letter instead of
the drive number.
1.03S 911127 Name of config file changed! Will NOT
work with older versions. Change was
made in order to facilitate upcoming CDP
release. Program also reflects change in
address. No longer has Cheap-Cheap Soft-
ware, to keep folks from making checks
out to them. (Released to two boards)
1.02S* 911127 Screen Saver question added to CDPSETUP.
This will be used in conjunction with
CDP.
1.01S* 911101 CDPSETUP writes CDPSONG.DAT & CDPDISC.DAT
for use with CDP. (Not released)
1.00S 910924 First Shareware release. Supports
playing of tracks n1 through n2.
0.02B 910913 BETA version to list various drive stats,
states, and play track 5 of Jimi
Hendrix's 'Smash Hits'.
0.01B 910909 Initial BETA program.
NOTE: * indicates changes made to CDPSETUP.
S indicates Shareware version.
R indicates Registered version.
B indicates Beta version.
