Welcome to the PROBE screensaver/GFX&SFX-demo
These instructions are but a brief set of instructions
to get the thing running. If this doesn't help, you're
on your own.
PROBE is being distributed as FREEWARE. This means you can copy
it freely, so long as you don't modify it or add/remove anything,
and so long as you don't try to sell it (although shareware vending
is ok).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
To run, simply type PROBE. By the way- you must run PCONFIG once.
If you would like to see the list of parameters type:
PROBE /?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Keyboard commands:
ENTER - Skip section
SPACEBAR - Skip only a little
ESCAPE - Quit program
F1 - Toggle beeper-sound on/off
F2 - Toggle digital sound on/off
F3 - Toggle Aliens on/off
F4 - Toggle Intro on/off
F5 - Toggle Planets on/off
F6 - Toggle Schematics on/off
F7 - Toggle Fast schematic mode on/off
F8 - Toggle All-Planet orbit mode on/off
F10 -
C - Recalibrate timing control.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
If PROBE won't run, chances are you don't have enough memory set aside.
It requires about 600,000 bytes *FREE* DOS RAM available (though you might
get away with a little less) plus 700k XMS (with lots of free XMS handles).
If PROBE exits with an error, you may need to reboot to free up the
XMS handles it grabbed.
You MUST run PCONFIG first to configure the sound settings. This is
another problem- SOUND. Don't try using sound at all under Windows 3.x,
lest ye crash thine system. As for Win95 and every other Macro$loth
Windoze package, you figure it out...
Probe was written slowly over the course of two years (a little here,
a little there) in TP6 and ASM. You have to watch it for a while to
see everything it does, since there are half a dozen different types
of ship encounters, and there are nebulas, spacial anomalies, hyperjumps,
etc.
Enjoy!

Revision history:
1.00 - Buggy first version
1.01 - Debugged, ready for release.
1.02 - Restored from corrupted source code. Actual first release.
(thus little program has been to hell and back, surviving
multiple hard drive crashes, lost source code, etc, and yet
not one piece of it was permanently lost, except some of
the 3D-studio meshes).
