Hints:
Since the instructions displayed during the game are a bit
cryptic, I have provided a more complete description below of how
to hit the ball.
Step 1.
- Select the STATUS command from the command menu displayed
to the left of the hole by using the up and down arrow keys
to move the pointer beside the label "STATUS" and hit return.
A status report which replaces the menu will display
the current hole, its par, the distance to the pin,
the number of strokes on this hole so far, the total
number of strokes made on earlier holes, and the lie
of the ball.
Step 2.
- Select the CLUB command from the command menu using the
same technique described earlier.
The current club will be displayed where the command
menu was. Use the up and down arrow keys to change
it as desired. Hit return when satisfied.
Step 3.
- Select the DIRECTION command from the command menu as
described previously.
A direction indicator will replace the command menu.
Use the right and left arrow keys to move the indicator's
pointer to adjust the direction that the ball will be
hit. Hit return when satisfied.
Step 4.
- Select the SWING command from the command menu as descibed
earlier.
A swing indicator will replace the command menu.
The indicator consists of a ball sitting on a tee over
a rectangular area which represents your backswing,
downswing, and follow-through.
When the spacebar is first pressed, a colored bar
will start under the ball and proceed toward the left
side of the indicator. This represents your
backswing.
If you allow the backswing to reach the end of the
indicator, you will be using a full backswing.
If you only allow the backswing to go back only
X percent, you will be using only X percent of a
full backswing.
To stop your backswing before it reaches the full
amount, hit the spacebar a second time.
Once the colored bar reaches the end of the indicator
(a full backsing) or you hit the spacebar a second time
(a partial backswing), the colored bar will begin to
move in the opposite direction. This indicates your
downswing.
To stop your downswing under the ball and start your
follow-through, you hit the spacebar a final time.
If you stop your downswing before the bar is directly
under the ball, you will slice your shot.
If you stop your downswing after the bar has passed the
ball, you will hook your shot.
If you stop your downswing either too far before or
too far after, you will whiff.
I hope these hints help.
