In architecture, the second period of English
Gothic, covering the latter part of the 13th
century and the 14th century. Chief
characteristics include ornate window
tracery, the window being divided into
several lights by vertical bars called
mullions; sharp spires ornamented with
crockets and pinnacles; complex church
vaulting; and slender arcade piers. Exeter
Cathedral is a notable example.
