sideboards, which are for use or for ornament
in a house. It is used to organise, and hide,
personal belongings-keeping them out of sight
until needed for use. Pre 19th century
furniture was hand made and expensive so
most families had very little, often just a
table with stools or benches to sit on.
Storing their clothing in a chest and
probably sleeping on a mattress on the floor.
The term is also used for equipment on a ship
such as stores, tackle, rigging, etc..
