Recording is the process of storing
information, or the information store itself.
Sounds and pictures can be stored on discs or
tape. The gramophone record or compact disc
stores music or speech as a spiral groove on
a plastic disc and the sounds are reproduced
by a record player. In tape recording, sounds
are stored as a magnetic pattern on plastic
tape.
