1847 British act of Parliament that
restricted the working day of all workers
except adult males. It was prompted by the
public campaign (the `Ten Hours Movement')
set up in 1831. Women and young people were
restricted to a 10 1/2 hour day, with 1 1/2
hours for meals, between 6 am and 6 pm.
