Constellation of the southern hemisphere,
represented as a toucan. It contains the
second most prominent globular cluster in the
sky, called 47 Tucanae, and the Small
Magellanic Cloud. It is one of the 11
constellations named by Johann Bayer
(1572-1625) early in the 17th century to
complement the 65 constellations delineated
by the ancients.
