- Changes in the physical condition of a gas in
- a reversible heat engine, necessarily in the
- following order: (1) isothermal expansion
- (without change of temperature), (2)
- adiabatic expansion (without change of heat
- content), (3) isothermal compression, and (4)
- adiabatic compression. The principles derived
- from a study of this cycle are important in
- the fundamentals of heat and thermodynamics.
