- A cat is a carnivorous MAMMAL of the family
- Felidae, including the domestic cat, the
- great cats, LION, TIGER, LEOPARD, and
- CHEETAH, and also the smaller, Lynx and
- Ocelot. They are highly adapted for hunting
- and devouring their pray, cats have short
- muzzles, large eyes, sensitive whiskers and
- sharp claws and teeth. Most have long tails,
- and all have a flexible musculo-skeletal
- system. Lions and cheetahs live in groups
- called prides, but most cats are solitary.
- Cats have been domesticated since
- prehistoric times and were often the objects
- of veneration or superstitious fear. Domestic
- cats vary in size, with males usually
- weighing 9-14 pound and females 6-10 pound.
- They have coats of various lengths and many
- colours, (black, white,shades of red,yellow
- ,brown and grey) in a variety of patterns.

- Abyssinian cats have reddish,brown coats
- with a ticking of darker brown or black on
- them.

- Burmese cats are small and muscular with
- medium to brown coats.

- Manx cats are variously coloured, tailless
- breed with hind legs longer than its forlegs,
- elevating the rump.

- Siamese cats have almond shaped blue eyes and
- white, cream, or fawn coats with brown or
- grey areas on the feet, tail, ears and head.

- The Russian blue cat with green eyes and blue
- grey coat, is distinguished by two layers of
- short, thick fur.

- The Rex cat is the only curly haired cat, it
- has a wooly coat that may be any colour.

- Persian cats are stocky and long haired and
- may be a variety of colours.

- The Himalayan cat has siamese colourings and
- is long haired.
