Cubicle Office Space
by Anat Grynberg
and Greg Ward
This office space was created soley as a demonstration that Radiance could
be used effectively in a lighting design problem. There are three lighting
designs represented in the Makefile. The first is called "bad", and is a
uniform fixture distribution that results in some rather nasty shadows
in many of the cubicles. The second is called "good", and represents a
redesign of the lighting arrangement that resulted in improved uniformity
in the cubicles and over 40% reduction in the lighting load. The final
design was dubbed "best", and adds to the good design task lights at
each desk to bring the lighting levels up even further.
Thanks goes also to Francis Rubinstein and Michael Siminovitch, both of
whom suggested design alternatives and made the appropriate calculations.
There are many bizarre calculations included in the Makefile which you
may or may not be interested in. They were used to produce plots,
among other things, and may not even work anymore -- I don't know.
