This file contains necessary information for upgrading from CNet
1.10 to CNet 1.20. There are many significant changes in this
version, so please read this entire file.

I. Changes From CNet 1.10 to CNet 1.20
This version iincludes major changes in the way CNet
looks and operates. There are four areas that describe these
changes - configuration files, on-screen information, CRC files,
and bells & whistles.
Configuration Files
The changes in the configuration files were intended to
provide an easier format for the user to work with while allowing
me to cram more information into the same space. The new CFG file
format uses keywords much like TNet or RNet. Included in this
ZIP is a sample CFG file as well as a program 11TO12.COM that
will convert your existing configuration files. NOTE:
11TO12.COM requires that your provide it with the orginal file
name and a new file name; They can not be the same! It is a
good idea backup your configuration files "just incase".
The following is a list of valid keywords. Each is
covered in great detail in the sample.cfg and the reference
manual.
SYSTEM SYSOPNAME
QWKDIR REPDIR
POINTERDIR UBBSDAT
LOGDIR CRCDIR
HOSTSYSOP DUPECONF
TEMPDIR YOURORGIN1
YOURORGIN2 YOURORGIN3
YOURORGIN4 YOURORGIN5
YOURORGIN6 YOURORGIN7
YOURORGIN8 YOURORGIN9
HOSTORGIN1 HOSTORGIN2
HOSTORGIN3 HOSTORGIN4
HOSTORGIN5 HOSTORGIN6
HOSTORGIN7 HOSTORGIN8
HOSTORGIN9 FIDO_TAGS
CRCMETHOD SYSTEM

TCAN TEMPDIR
On Screen Information
CNet 1.20 uses "windowed" output. The presentation of
the data should be much more pleasing to the eye as well as more
informative. For the techies who care, CNet uses direct screen
writes, but if you are under DesQview, it writes directly to the
DV buffer so you may change your "program information"
accordingly.
CRC Files
The CRC files have received two changes. First, the
format of the CRC files has changed permitting faster searches.
I'd appreciate any input on just how much faster it is. The
second change is in the rebuild function of CNet. In the past
CNet attempted to have the CRC files acurately reflect the
actual message base. If the message base had been packed and
messages deleted, CNet would rebuild it's CRC file. This could
take quite a bit of time, especially if there are a lot of
conferences. Using the CRCREBUILD keyword, CNet can be
configured to keep a specified number of CRC records regardless
of the state of the message base. This greatly increases CNet's
overall speed while giving you the ability to control the size
of your CRC files. Alternatively, CNet 1.20 may be configured
to work exactly as it did in version 1.10 with the statement
CRCREBUILD=0.
Bells & Whistles
This also includes what I call "bells & whistles". These
are small features that aren't necessarily important to the program
but they are features that some people appreciate. These
features include Alias support, Trashcan, aMultiple archivers,
and Appending a REP file.
II. What do you need to do?
1. Delete all of your CRC files.
2. Make backups of your CFG files
3. Run 11TO12.COM on your CFG files
4. Rename your new configuration files to have the .CFG
extension.
5. That's it!
