GEOPUBLISH - QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Q. What is GeoPublish?
A. GeoPublish is a desktop publishing program specifically designed for
shareware distribution. It is based on GeoWrite and includes Preferences,
Text File Editor, and GeoManager, along with a minimum set of GEOS system
software. (It is NOT a full Ensemble 2.0 product, nor does it include all of
GEOS 2.0--only those system files needed to run the included applications).
Q. If I already own Ensemble 2.0, will I want to use GeoPublish?
A. No. GeoPublish is a shareware desktop publisher based on GeoWrite. If you
have Ensemble 2.0, you might want to take a look at GeoPublish and recommend
it to your friends and colleagues.
Q. What is shareware?
A. Shareware is copyrighted software which is distributed at little or no
cost. You may use the software for 30 days without obligation. If you find
value in the program or it meets your needs, you must register it. If you
don't find it useful, simply remove it from your computer.
Q. How do I register GeoPublish?
A. Registration information and a mail-in form are included in the GeoPublish
software, or you can call 1-800-238-5885. The registration fee is $79.95 and
registered customers will receive Ensemble 2.0, the software suite which
includes GeoCalc, GeoFile, GeoDraw, GeoComm, GeoDex, GeoPlanner, printed
documentation, and so on.
Q. Try before you buy? How can I try a whole software package when only the
word processor is included?
A. GeoPublish is a sample of the Geoworks Ensemble technology, designed to
meet the needs of desktop publishing customers. GeoPublish will give you a
flavor for the quality of the graphics, the strength of the print
capabilities, and the overall interface in a working package, so you can see
if Ensemble 2.0 is for you.
Q. Is this product different from Ensemble 2.0?
A. Yes. GeoPublish is a subset of the newest Ensemble 2.01 technology
available. However, existing Ensemble 2.0 owners will not need to obtain
GeoPublish, as all of the included enhancements will be made available to
them directly in a different offer very soon.
Q. Will I have to pay another $79.95 to get it?
A. No. The Ensemble 2.01 enhancements will be made available to existing
owners for a substantially lower price. Existing owners of Ensemble 2.0 will
be contacted with details on how to obtain this update.
Q. Can I give copies of GeoPublish to my friends?
A. Yes. Please do! We encourage you to give copies of the product to anyone
who they think might find it of use. Simply copy the program and distribute
it freely.
Q. Can I my save files using GeoPublish?
A. Yes. Unlike the previous Geoworks Working Model demo, GeoPublish can save
files.
Q. Does this mean that Geoworks is going to continue to evolve its desktop
applications?
A. Yes. Geoworks will continue to evolve its applications suite for a number
of different market segments. We will enhance our applications in order to
meet the needs and desires of all of our customers.
Q. When will updates to the applications be made available?
A. No specific dates have been set for new updates for the applications,
beyond the upcoming 2.01 update product. We hope to have new products
available before the end of the year. All customers will be informed directly
via postcard or online announcements when new products are available.
Q. Is this a brand new approach for Geoworks?
A. Yes. Alternative distribution channels continue to grow in acceptance and
usage. In working to enable low cost mass market computing, these channels
make the most sense for distribution of Geoworks' desktop products. They
match most closely the places where Geoworks' target customers are likely to
look or shop for applications solutions.
Geoworks' goal is to develop a large installed base of GEOS customers and to
put the technology in the hands of new users. By letting customers try the
software before they are asked to purchase it, they will be more likely to
test the software to see if it meets their needs. Given the quality of the
product, Geoworks believes that increased usage will lead directly to
