* System Shock - Hints and Tips, Level 4 * *
Level four is the storage level. It has a version 1 biosuit, and
some CPU's to knock out. If you just came down for the biosuit, fine. It
is behind a door locked by an access panel. The room is to the far
southeast. To get in the room, you must first reduce the level security.
The fastest and best way to reduce level security is to blow up the
CPU's on a level. As you exit the freight elevator, go straight ahead until
you can go right (open hallway/ramp) and do so. Take the ramp to a wall, and
turn right. Facing east, you see another door. Take that. (Knock out
cameras you see as you go along.)
Beyond are a locked door and a force door. Past the force door are
the level CPU's. Do them, and record the screen digit (and the level it
corresponds to.) As you leave, the locked door will be open, revealing an
energy station.
Leaving the CPU/energy station area, head southwards. You want to
sweep around to the east of the freight elevator. Finding another ramps
room, use the southeast iris door. The room beyond has two repulsar lifts;
the east one goes to the rejuvenator. The south one goes toward that
biosuit.
Taking the lift down, you come to a door with an access panel. I
was able to get in when security was down to 16%. From reading logs, I was
able to find the first and last digits (8_8) and tried until I found the
code, 838. I expect that a logic probe also works.
Inside is a V1 biosuit, a magnum, and other stuff. As you leave, on
the north side of the door (across from access panel) is a hidden door. Go
down there, do that access panel, and take the goodies. The I-cad batteries
arem much better than regular battery packs; if you carry regulars, dump them
for the I-cads.
Other things to do on the level: A room in the southwest has jump
boots (I think version 2's) and, of course, you may be here for the
plastique. That is needed for your next major task after jettisoning Beta
grove on level 6. If so, you will need room for it. Near the elevator,
leave enough things from your general inventory to allow you to pick up
four packs of plastique.
Shodan is going to download a copy of itself into Earth's computer
network. You need to collect 4 packs of plastique and take them up to level
7, and blow up the four antenna relays. The plastique is in a room up on
the northwest corner of the level.
From the elevator, head west through the bulkhead door. Go south
through a second bulhead door. Go east in that room and use the north door.
In that room, do the company and use the lever (east side of room, on side
of upper ledge, close to south door.) This changes the repulsar in the room
center so that it sometimes is green (up.)
Jump on the repulsar and get on the walk. Crouch down and be ready;
there should be sec1bots in the next room. Use the door to the north. The
door to the north out in the hallway is the one you want.
The room floor is crawling with repairbots. Shoot a few (use your
nightsight.) Save and jump to the ledge to the east; there is a hidden door
with an energy station. Shoot more repairbots. Jump down and watch for
more.
Your destination is on the floor, in the center of the north end of
the room. It is a button, nearly covered by a crate. Use it and the walks
will activate, sort of. They are damaged and will turn on and off. Luckily,
they seem to pulse on at regular intervals.
Some of those small room doors open as well. There is a warrior
cyborg in each. Try to snipe upwards and wipe out as many as you can.
Head to the south end of the room; use the repulsar lift to get back
to your start point. Now, to do the walks. You will find the turbo motion
booster and jump boots both help here. First save, then head west. If you
make it, save. Head north. At this point, you should be about midway up the
west wall. Head east. Next head north, to the northeast corner. Now just
walk west to the room in the center of the north wall.
Ok, there's the plastique. If you ended up with too much stuff, just
toss extra batteries, first aid kits or whatever over the edge. You can come
back later and get them without having to traverse the walks. I took 4 packs
of plastique and threw an extra over the edge just in case.
In that room, there is a screen showing a shielded door. This door
was locked. Pull the lever, and you see the door open. The door in the
screen is just east of the freight elevator.
You can exit the plastique room by jumping down. Take the repulsar
up to the original door and leave. As you leave, head east, north, and then
back west. This takes you to an area just east of the plastique room. The
area has what looks like a red ramp. This is a slide! Be healthy, charged,
weapon loaded. Save-you may not make it, and there are land mines below (or
you can take the ramp just east downwards and snipe at a mine, to blow them.)
Ok, slide. As you skid to a stop, Shodan (and 2 sec1bots) greets
you. There is nothing really needed down here; it just seems really unique
to slide into an ambush.
This level has one other odd attraction; your first cyborg enforcer.
He is standing around, waiting for you to blunder into him. He's in the
'ramps room' just north of the freight elevator. You need to take the ramp
down to its end, and there he is. You should save before trying to take him;
these things are tough. It's good he's here, so that you can see first hand
just what it takes to kill one. You will find more on level 7...
Well, there are some other rooms to poke into while you are here,
and then, if you just came for the biosuit before finishing level 6,you can
go back to level 6 now. If you have finished level 6, you are ready for
level 7. - Or not ready; but that's next. Head back through level 5 to
level 6, take the telepad to Deigo's rooms, and use the elevator.
