  4. DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE

  6. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
  7. before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
  8. using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
  9. differ on details -- some request registration while others
  10. require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
  11. registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
  12. using the software to an updated program with printed manual.

  14. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
  15. and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
  16. exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
  17. programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
  18. of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
  19. and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
  20. distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
  21. and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
  22. specific group. For example, some authors require written
  23. permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
  24. Shareware.

  26. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
  27. should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
  28. whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
  29. fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
  30. And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware
  31. has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
  32. product, you don't pay for it.

  55. DISTRIBUTOR INFORMATION AND LICENSE INFORMATION

  57. The license information and distribution requirements in this 
  58. document supercede all previous license statements. To continue 
  59. to distribute PTAHSoft products, you must adhere to the licensing 
  60. and distribution requirements below.

  62. If you are a mail order or BBS-type distributor of shareware 
  63. software, you may distribute these programs as they are, without 
  64. any changes other than expanding files contained in the ZIP 
  65. archives. However, you have a responsibility to check from time to 
  66. time, at a minimum interval of 6 months, for new versions of these 
  67. programs, and to update your copies in a timely manner. PTAHSoft
  68. will gladly send you a diskette containing the current versions 
  69. on request.

  71. You must fully identify all PTAHSoft programs in your advertising, 
  72. by the program's full name and version, and indicate the 
  73. registration fee in the program description. The word PTAHSoft must 
  74. appear in all program descriptions.

  77. SHAREWARE DISCLOSURE REQUIRED
  78.  
  79. All advertising and packaging information including references to 
  80. PTAHSoft products must contain a statement explaining the shareware 
  81. concept. Specifically, that statement must explain that shareware 
  82. software MUST be registered by the user, after a trial period, by 
  83. paying a registration fee, and that all monies paid for the 
  84. shareware version are duplication and distribution charges only.

  87. RETAIL RACK AND CD-ROM DISTRIBUTION

  89. If you distribute shareware in a retail setting in racks, store 
  90. displays, vending machines, at computer fairs, or in any way 
  91. other than normal BBS or catalog-based sales, you must contact 
  92. PTAHSoft for permission to distribute any PTAHSoft program. 
  93. Rack or retail-like sales require a special distribution license, 
  94. normally requiring royalties paid to PTAHSoft. If you distribute 
  95. shareware on CD-ROM disks, you must also contact PTAHSoft before 
  96. including any PTAHSoft shareware program on a CD-ROM disk. 
  97. Normally, permission is granted, but current versions must be 
  98. included and all old versions of any PTAHSoft program removed from 
  99. any CD-ROM disk containing PTAHSoft products.

  102. LIMITAION OF LIABILITY

  104. Users should be aware that it is unlikely that all errors could
  105. be detected during development and testing. Under no circumstances
  106. shall PTAHSoft be held liable for any damages that result from 
  107. the use or inability to use the multi-language package, even if 
  108. PTAHSoft has been advised of the possibility of such damages. 
  109. In no event shall PTAHSoft's total liability to you for all 
  110. damages or losses exceed the amount paid for the software.
