Short: Network Printing Client
Author: mikeb@skylink.net (Michael M Brockman)

Version: 2.0
Type: comm/tcp
Requires: KS 2.0+ WB 2.0+
NetParLpr is a Lpr compatible Client for the Amiga. With
it you can print to Unix Print servers, Network Ready printers,
TCP/IP Print Servers, and properly prepared Windows machines
(must have LPD service installed).
This Client offers:
* RFC-1179 Compatible. This is the BSD Line Printer
protocol. Don't let the term "Line Printer" fool
you, graphics prints are also handled in this
protocol.
* 68000 through 68060 support.
* Local Print Spooling. User selects where the
spooling directory is.
* Can be configured with the prt42_50.lha printer
device for easy use. With this setup, it is
very easy to change network printers just by
bouncing into preferences. (This is the
suggested installation method!)
* Multiple printer support.
* Users are informed of errors through extensive use
of the Amiga System Messages.
* Offline printing (Can print when network is down and
prints will be sent when network goes back online).
* Easy installation - Complete installer script.
* Easier removal - Installer script comes with a heavily
tested "Remove" option.
* 10 Testers worked out my bugs. See docs for information on
what networks and hardware has been printed to. If you can add
to this list, please write .....
* No Enforcer Hits...Not a feature, just something I'm proud of.
NOTE: This Client is NOT compatible with the Current NetPar Server or
the TestPar programs. I am working on the Server but decided to release
this client as a stand alone program for now. There seams to be a need for
the functionality this client provides. If you need to use this client and
also need to print to another Amiga, I would suggest that you use the
lpd.lha package by Juergen Schubert (on AmiNET) to replace the NetPar
Server. This client has been tested with the lpd.lha program...
Windows 95/NT success has been reported using the Chameleon NFS software.
So far, no one has tried to use the MicroSoft LPD Service with NetParLpr. If
you can test this setup, please write to me and let me know if you are
successful. After the two months I have put into this client, I will be
very suprised if you can't.....but since when does Micro$oft follow the
RFC's.....
Finally a BIG CUDOS to an old Friend of mine, Rodney Myers. A former Amiga
owner with a justified hatred of Microsoft, lent to me the use of his 133 Mhz
Pentium Laptop, installed with RedHat Linux 4.2. Without this machine, I
would STILL be trying to find a Priveledged Socket error in my code.....
