  6. How to upload to SimTel, the Coast to Coast Software Repository (tm)
  7.  
  8. SimTel does not publish instructions for uploading files for those who
  9. wish to submit their programs because we coordinate uploads by asking
  10. contributors to contact us first so we can check to make sure the
  11. program is not already in the repository.
  12.  
  13. File uploads are accepted via FTP using a special uploading account or
  14. by e-mail using a special mailbox which does not interfere with regular
  15. correspondence.  Only the author or the author's authorized agent is
  16. allowed to upload files.  There is no charge for this service.
  17.  
  18. If you have a program to upload send e-mail to uploads@SimTel.Coast.NET
  19. with a short description of the file you wish to submit and the method
  20. you will be using to upload (ftp, e-mail, or modem).  Information on
  21. SimTel's upload announcement format will be included in the upload
  22. instructions file that you will receive in reply to your e-mail.  Please
  23. do *not* send files to this mailbox or to my mailbox - they will be
  24. deleted without review.

  26. All uploads must run on or be related to MS-DOS, MS-Windows, or Windows
  27. 95.  If your program uses Visual Basic's VBRUNxxx.DLL it is recommended
  28. that it not be included because it is already available from the SimTel
  29. collection as vbrun100.zip, vbrun200.zip, or vbrun300.zip.

  31. Windows-NT uploads should be coordinated with winnt@SimTel.Coast.NET.
  32. OS/2 uploads should be coordinated with os2@SimTel.Coast.NET.

  34. All files or programs must include documentation in the English language
  35. (other languages are allowed but English must also be included).
  36.  
  37. There must be a file included in the uploaded zip file that the user can
  38. read, without running a program, which tells:
  39.  
  40.   1. What the program does, and how to use it.
  41.   2. The program's status (Public Domain, FreeWare, ShareWare).
  42.   3. The program's distribution status (it must be freely distributable).
  43.   4. How to contact the author in case of questions or problems (mailing
  44.      address and phone number).  If the author has an e-mail address it
  45.      is recommended that it be included.
  46.  
  47. If the user has to run a program to get this information there is a
  48. chicken-and-the-egg problem if that program does not run because of an
  49. incompatibility or a corrupted download.
  50.  
  51. Programs that stop working after a fixed date will not be accepted.
  52.  
  53. Programs submitted to the SimTel collection may appear on CD-ROMs
  54. offered by several vendors.  If the program you are submitting should
  55. not be distributed this way, or has restrictions on such distribution,
  56. please don't upload.
  57.  
  58. Because SimTel's collections are available all over the world, SimTel
  59. cannot accept programs that are or might be subject to U.S. technology
  60. export restrictions.  Encryption and decryption programs will not be
  61. accepted, no matter what method is used.
  62.  
  63. Programs that crack copy protection or passwords will not be accepted.
  64.  
  65. Games are not accepted unless they are strictly educational.  There
  66. are several sites on the Internet which specialize in other types of
  67. games.
  68.

  70. helping us keep up to date with the latest programs.
