Question & Answer Document Set
This file was formatted with Ventura Publisher and is one of four
chapters in a set submitted by Xerox Customer Support in Lewisville,
Texas. To get the entire set of 4 files, you must download QA-1.ARC,
QA-2.ARC, QA-3.ARC and QA-4.ARC. The entire set makes a good reference
work for isolating problems reported frequently by users.
The documents are in Question and Answer format and are a collection
of frequently asked questions answered by the Customer Support Group
and Ventura Software. The documents were designed as a training aide for
new customer support personnel at the Lewisville Facility. Please ignore
the phrase, "Tell the Customer", placed throughout the files.
To extract information from the ARC files, you need to download the
PKX35A35.EXE file from the ARC file storage area. Create a sub-directory
on your hard disk for extracting the files. Place PKX35A35.EXE in this
directory Along with the QA-n.ARC files. When PKX35A35 is executed, several
executable files will be placed on your hard disk. One of these files,
PKXARC.EXE is used to remove the Q&A chapters from their arcive files.
Full documentation for Phil Katz's PK utilities will also be placed on
your hard disk. To extract the files, enter:
PKXARC -e *.ARC *.*
All Chapter, Caption, Style and Text files will be extracted and placed
in the subdirectory. Transfer all the files containing the QA-n filename
to floppy disks. These include the files with the .CHP, .STY, .CAP, and
.CIF file extensions. You may then start Ventura Publisher and use the
Multi-Chapter selection on the Options menu to transfer the files to your
hard disk.
To do so, select NEW from the Multi-Chapter menu, then add the QA-n.CHP
files using the ADD CHAPTER option. When all four files are added to the
list, use the SAVE command to give the PUBLICATION a name. For instance,
you can call the Publication Q&A. The Multi-Chapter screen will reappear
and the PUB file name selected will appear on the top of the dialog box.
Choose the COPY ALL option and a new dialog box will appear. Follow the
instructions in the Ventura Publisher manual for filling in the data entry
fields on this dialog box. When you're finished, click on the large button
on the bottom of the dialog box to transfer the files to your hard disk.
As the files are transfered, a message will appear stating OUTPUT.WID not
found. Press the IGNORE button to continue with the file transfer. When
Multi-Chapter finishes, the entire file set will be placed on your hard
disk along with the publication file. Quit Multi-Chapter and exit to DOS,
then use the DOS COPY command to transfer the OUTPUT.WID file in your
\VENTURA directory to the new directory containing the Q&A files.
When your finished, start VP again and use the PRINT option on the FILES
menu to print each file separately or the use Multi-Chapter to print the
entire publication.
Check the Q&A file area in the VP FORUM on a frequent basis for updates.
More files will be added in the future. At some point in time, these files
will be broken down into smaller categories (FRAME problems, BREAK
problems, etc.) and placed on-line in the VP FORUM's on-line database.
Thanks, Sysop
