  4.           Welcome to the Walnut Creek Simtel MSDOS archive CDROM

  9. This CDROM contains thousands of MSDOS Shareware programs such as:
  10. programming utilities, general utilities, BBS editors, music, animation 
  11. software, graphics software, communication software, database software, 
  12. and much more.  There is so much software on this disc, you'll spend 
  13. hours browsing through hundreds of useful programs.

  15. Here is a list of some important files and directories on the CDROM:

  17. view.exe         MSDOS File Browser/Uncompressor
  18. 00_index.txt     Global index of both discs
  19. filename.txt     Complete Path and Filename of every file on this disc
  20. docs\            Documentation regarding these discs
  21. docs\view.doc    Documentation regarding VIEW.EXE
  22. 00_start\        Essential info and utilities for beginners
  23. utils\           Utilities for VIEW.EXE
  24. _bbs\            BBS files

  28. Quick Start Instructions:
  29.  
  30.   Windows 3.1/NT:
  31.     Go to "File" menu under program manager and choose Run.  At the
  32.     Command Line box, type: "D:\setup", assuming 'D' is your cdrom drive.
  33.     This will install a group folder with icons for this cdrom.

  35.   MSDOS Quick Start:
  36.     Change to your CDROM drive and type "view".
  37.     Example:
  38.           C:\> D:
  39.           D:\> view
  40.  
  41.   Windows 95:
  42.     Insert the cdrom into the cdrom drive.  This will automatically
  43.     start a CDROM browser program called WinView.
  44.     Alternatively, you can also install the program group and icon
  45.     by selecting the "Start" menu and choosing "Run".  At the Run
  46.     box, type: "D:\setup", assuming 'D' is your cdrom drive.

  48. Using the 00_INDEX.HTM:
  49.  
  50. We have included 00_index.htm files so the user may use a Web browser
  51. to view our disc.
  52.  
  53. In order to view this disc using these 00_index.htm files, point your
  54. Web browser to the root level 00_index.htm file.
  55.  
  56. For example, in Netscape/Mosaic:
  57.  
  58.         1) Choose File/Open File (or File/Open Local File with Mosaic)
  59.         2) Choose your CDROM Drive under "Drives"
  60.         3) Select the 00_index.htm file
  61.         4) Click on OK
  62.  
  63. The 00_index.htm files have been tested under Netscape 1.1 (Windows,
  64. Macintosh, and FreeBSD), Netscape 1.22 (Windows), Netscape 2.0b2,
  65. Mosaic 2.00 (Final Beta), and Microsoft Internet Explorer.

  69. WinView and View
  70.  
  71. To make browsing the disc easier, we have included the program WinView
  72. for Windows, and the program VIEW for MSDOS on the CDROM.  These programs
  73. allow you to page through index files, browse through directories on the
  74. CD, view documentation and uncompress/install the program(s) you want
  75. onto your hard disk.

  79. This disk conforms to the level 1, ISO-9660 format.  All the filenames are
  80. limited to eight single-case characters, with an extension of up to three
  81. characters.  Most directories have an index file named 00_index.txt that
  82. contains a description of each file in the directory.

  86. Shareware

  88. This disk contains many shareware programs and images. Shareware can
  89. be considered to be a sort of try before you buy system where you are
  90. expected to pay the program author a registration fee if you find the
  91. program or image useful.  You will find details of registration
