  6.     Version 4.20 & 4.20SW of GCP (formerly named "Easel") include
  7.     the following bug fixes, enhancements and new features over
  8.     Easel versions 4.10 and 3.10:

  11.     1) The program name was changed from "easel" to "GCP". This
  12.     was done in order to avoid possible confusion with a program
  13.     from Interactive Images, Inc. for OS/2 developers currently
  14.     being marketed by IBM and Microsoft. (I discovered "Easel"
  15.     is a registered trademark of Interactive Images, Inc. and so
  16.     I had to switch names to be legal.) (The name was changed
  17.     to protect the innocent!)

  19.     IMPORTANT NOTE:
  20.  
  21.     IF YOU HAVE ANY COPIES OF THE OLD "EASEL" PROGRAM FROM
  22.     SYNERGISTIC ENTERPRISES PLEASE DELETE THEM AND REPLACE THEM
  23.      WITH "GCP". Similarly, PLEASE UPLOAD GCP42S.ZIP/.ARC TO ALL
  24.     BBS SYSTEMS/SHAREWARE DEPOSITORIES YOU SENT "EASEL" TO.

  26.     2) GIF files with problems or partial displays which are
  27.     interrupted are not cleared. This allows reading of GIF
  28.     files which formerly could not be read, or intentional
  29.     partial reading of a file.
  30.  
  31.     3) Filenames including the ampersand ("&") character
  32.     now display correctly in the file information box and
  33.     window frame title box.
  34.  
  35.     4) MacPaint and Macintosh StartUpScreen picture files
  36.     can now be loaded and saved with or without the 128 byte
  37.     header formerly required. This makes file exchange with
  38.     Mac systems easier.
  39.  
  40.     5) The professional version (4.20) can now read as well
  41.     as write PCL format files. (PCL files created by GCP
  42.     and possibly other programs. Windows PCL driver output
  43.     cannot currently be read due to the bizarre way in which
  44.     bitmap graphics are sent to the printer.)
  45.  
  46.     6) Version 4.20 can now also read and write Windows
  47.     bitmap, cursor and icon file formats. (NOTE: Bitmaps
  48.     can be black and white or device dependent color,
  49.     cursor and icon conversion is device independent only,
  50.     and only black and white (no screen/not-screen colors,
  51.     hotspot selection, device dependent version, etc.)
  52.     You can further refine and edit icons, cursors and
  53.     small (up to 99x99) black and white bitmaps with the
  54.     Windows ICONEDIT program.)

  56.     7) The cursor is no longer moved off screen when files
  57.     are loaded for display.
  58.  
  59.     8) The "Stretch & Shrink" command has been revised to
  60.     allow the viewing and changing of stretch and shrink
  61.     parameters and includes an option to discard the original
  62.     bitmap (which can be used to save memory).
  63.  
  64.     9) A new option has been added to the edit menu. "Invert"
  65.     inverts the colors of the area currently selected. This
  66.     allows white on black images to be changed to white on
  67.     black, or colors to be "reversed" for a special effect.
  68.  
  69.     10) The selection rectangle is no longer displayed using
  70.     an inverted region, instead a dotted-line rectangle is
  71.     drawn around the selected area.

  73.     11) When in "mark" mode, moving the cursor at the edge
  74.     of the screen area will cause "auto scrolling" if more
  75.     of the picture is off-screen in the direction the cursor
  76.     was moved.

  78.     12) The version numbering scheme has been simplified.
  79.     The shareware version number is the same as the full
  80.     featured professional version except that the shareware
  81.     version number ends with a "SW". Hence this update is
  82.     4.20/4.20SW.

  84.     13) The "About" box for the 4.20SW shareware version
  85.     contains information about the professional version and
  86.     includes additional pleas for registrations. (PLEASE
  87.     SEND IN YOUR REGISTRATION AND FEE!!!)

  89.     14) The price for both the shareware and professional
  90.     versions has gone up $20. This added cost was necessary
  91.     to pay for additional overhead costs and better packaging.
