GCP version 4.20/4.20SW - release notes
______________________________________________________________
Version 4.20 & 4.20SW of GCP (formerly named "Easel") include
the following bug fixes, enhancements and new features over
Easel versions 4.10 and 3.10:
1) The program name was changed from "easel" to "GCP". This
was done in order to avoid possible confusion with a program
from Interactive Images, Inc. for OS/2 developers currently
being marketed by IBM and Microsoft. (I discovered "Easel"
is a registered trademark of Interactive Images, Inc. and so
I had to switch names to be legal.) (The name was changed
to protect the innocent!)
IMPORTANT NOTE:
IF YOU HAVE ANY COPIES OF THE OLD "EASEL" PROGRAM FROM
SYNERGISTIC ENTERPRISES PLEASE DELETE THEM AND REPLACE THEM
WITH "GCP". Similarly, PLEASE UPLOAD GCP42S.ZIP/.ARC TO ALL
BBS SYSTEMS/SHAREWARE DEPOSITORIES YOU SENT "EASEL" TO.
2) GIF files with problems or partial displays which are
interrupted are not cleared. This allows reading of GIF
files which formerly could not be read, or intentional
partial reading of a file.
3) Filenames including the ampersand ("&") character
now display correctly in the file information box and
window frame title box.
4) MacPaint and Macintosh StartUpScreen picture files
can now be loaded and saved with or without the 128 byte
header formerly required. This makes file exchange with
Mac systems easier.
5) The professional version (4.20) can now read as well
as write PCL format files. (PCL files created by GCP
and possibly other programs. Windows PCL driver output
cannot currently be read due to the bizarre way in which
bitmap graphics are sent to the printer.)
6) Version 4.20 can now also read and write Windows
bitmap, cursor and icon file formats. (NOTE: Bitmaps
can be black and white or device dependent color,
cursor and icon conversion is device independent only,
and only black and white (no screen/not-screen colors,
hotspot selection, device dependent version, etc.)
You can further refine and edit icons, cursors and
small (up to 99x99) black and white bitmaps with the
Windows ICONEDIT program.)
7) The cursor is no longer moved off screen when files
are loaded for display.
8) The "Stretch & Shrink" command has been revised to
allow the viewing and changing of stretch and shrink
parameters and includes an option to discard the original
bitmap (which can be used to save memory).
9) A new option has been added to the edit menu. "Invert"
inverts the colors of the area currently selected. This
allows white on black images to be changed to white on
black, or colors to be "reversed" for a special effect.
10) The selection rectangle is no longer displayed using
an inverted region, instead a dotted-line rectangle is
drawn around the selected area.
11) When in "mark" mode, moving the cursor at the edge
of the screen area will cause "auto scrolling" if more
of the picture is off-screen in the direction the cursor
was moved.
12) The version numbering scheme has been simplified.
The shareware version number is the same as the full
featured professional version except that the shareware
version number ends with a "SW". Hence this update is
4.20/4.20SW.
13) The "About" box for the 4.20SW shareware version
contains information about the professional version and
includes additional pleas for registrations. (PLEASE
SEND IN YOUR REGISTRATION AND FEE!!!)
14) The price for both the shareware and professional
versions has gone up $20. This added cost was necessary
to pay for additional overhead costs and better packaging.
