Article 6155 of comp.sys.ibm.pc:
From: sam@brspyr1.BRS.Com (Sam Baxter)
Organization: BRS Information Technologies; Albany, NY
Subject: GGREP.EXE; Turbo-C grep utility
Date: 20 Aug 87 15:49:02 GMT
This is the first release of my version of GGREP.
Why another GREP? Well, Turbo C came in and I just *had* to see how
it performed ...
GGREP is a file searching utility which acts much like UN*X's "fgrep,"
but also includes regular expression handling like "egrep" as an option.
(Get it? E- ... F- ... G- GREP?) It is reasonably quick and pretty
much true to its UN*X counterpart. Regular expression handling is
compliments Henry Spencer at the University of Toronto.
This program has a help facility, although it is really nothing more
than an online "man" page you can flip through. Hey! That's better
than nothing! Help may be accessed by invoking it with a "-?"
parameter. The actual text is read from the GGREP.HLP file; your DOS
"PATH" is scanned to find this file.
This program is covered by various copyrights, but it is free for
you to use and give away. Don't sell it. Don't modify it. Just
use and enjoy it. If you don't like it, or my implementation of
it, toss it in the bit-bucket. Whaddaya want for free, anyway?
(The various copyrights are forced on you when you use the help
facility. Credit where credit is due.)
I hope someone besides me finds GGREP useful. Since there's no money
involved, what else can a humble programmer ask for?
