A Few Final Notes from the Author
Introduction to HyphenAid: HyphenAid is a no-nonsense memory
resident hyphenation dictionary. It is designed for editors and
other writers that require even looking margins without outrageous
character spacing. With HyphenAid, the chore of looking up word
breaks comes to an end. This shareware version is provided to
allow the user to try the program before buying it. The
dictionary included with the shareware version contains but 5,000
of the nearly 25,000 words in the regular HyphenAid dictionary.
Should you like this product, I encourage you to purchase the
complete HyphenAid program. Order information is at the end of
this documentation.
Hardware Requirements: HyphenAid requires an IBM PC or 100%
compatible, 15K of RAM, and a hard disk is strongly recommended.
Software Requirements: HyphenAid is a memory resident program
that works with most text-based software and DOS 2.00 or above.
HyphenAid may have difficulty with software that makes use of
special graphics modes.Section 1: Copyright Notice and Disclaimer
HyphenAid Version 1.0S, Copyright 1990 by Mahesh Johari
WARNING: HyphenAid is copyrighted software, and this version of
HyphenAid (version 1.0S) is shareware. You the user are allowed
to make and distribute an unlimited number of copies of HyphenAid
as long as each copy contains all 6 of HyphenAid's files in an
unaltered form (the six files are HYPHEN.EXE, HYPHEN.DIC,
HYPHEN.DOC, HYPHEN.IND, INSTALL.BAT, SETUP.EXE). By using
HyphenAid, you agree that if you find the program useful, you
will purchase it using the order information at the end of this
documentation. Extended use (over 1 month) of HyphenAid without
purchasing the program is a violation of Mahesh Johari's
copyright. The dictionary used by HyphenAid has been licensed by

to this software and documentation. Therefore, this software and
its documentation are licensed strictly "as is" and you the

performance.
Section 2: Installation
WARNING: HYPHENAID WILL "FREEZE-UP" WITHOUT PROPER INSTALLATION!
This section assumes familiarity with basic DOS commands such
as CD, MD, and COPY. If you are unfamiliar with the use of these
commands, please review your DOS manual prior to installation.
Step 1: Copy all of the HyphenAid files (HYPHEN.EXE, HYPHEN.DIC,
HYPHEN.DOC, HYPHEN.IND, INSTALL.BAT, SETUP.EXE) to a specific
directory on your desired disk.
Step 2: Make the directory to which you copied the HyphenAid files
the current directory.
Step 3: Type INSTALL followed by the full name of the HyphenAid
directory (include drive designation).
Example: If the directory you placed the HyphenAid files in
was on drive C and was named \HYPHEN, step 3 would have you
type: INSTALL C:\HYPHEN\
Step 4: If no error messages were displayed, and the Install
program returned with "HyphenAid Installation Complete" you are
ready to begin using HyphenAid. If there was an error, check that
you copied the files correctly and that the directory name was
also entered properly (see step 3).
Section 3: Instructions for Use
To load HyphenAid, simply execute HYPHEN from the DOS prompt
while in the HyphenAid directory. HyphenAid is memory-resident,
so once HyphenAid is activated, it will remain active until the
computer is shut off.
After typing HYPHEN and pressing Enter, you will see the
installation message. Note that HyphenAid is "popped-up" by
depressing the left Ctrl and left Shift keys simultaneously. The
left Ctrl-left shift combination will be referred to as the
HyphenAid Hotkey.
Some of HyphenAid's Features:
1. If while working, you would like to look up a word on the
screen, position the cursor at that word and press the HyphenAid
Hotkey. HyphenAid will look up the word for you.
2. If while in HyphenAid, you would like to look up a certain
word, press F1 and enter the word you would like to find.
3. If while in HyphenAid, you would like to browse the
dictionary, press the PgUp of PgDn keys to flip through pages of
HyphenAid's dictionary.
4. When possible, HyphenAid will highlight the word that most
closely resembles the word you wanted to lookup. Otherwise, the
highlight bar simply serves as a reference tool for the user (it
may be moved using the arrow keys). Remember that the shareware
version of HyphenAid has less than 5,000 words in its dictionary,
so that there is a good chance the word you are looking for can't
be found. This problem can be corrected by ordering the complete
version of HyphenAid (see order information at the end of this
document).
5. To exit HyphenAid, press ESC and you will return to where
you were prior to calling HyphenAid.A Few Final Notes from the Author
Please remember that HyphenAid is shareware, but is not "free."
By using HyphenAid, you agree to purchase the program if it is to
your liking. By supporting shareware with your financial support,
not only do you encourage the production of other fine programs
but you also help send me through school.
Full-featured copies of HyphenAid may be ordered by mail by
writing Mahesh Johari, 1034 Alabama Drive, Elk Grove, IL, 60007.
Each copy of HyphenAid costs $35, all taxes and shipping are
included.
Please be patient with me, I am a college student and not
always able to answer requests as quickly as I wished I could.
Also, if you notice some erroneous words appearing on
HyphenAid's pages, ignore them, as they will disappear upon
exiting HyphenAid (you can look up geotechnological to see what I
mean). I am currently working on this problem.
Lastly, if you notice errors in HyphenAid's dictionary or would
like to see some other words added, please drop me a line at the
address above. This will help improve the quality of the
dictionary.
