curved mastheads and other text effects that are otherwise impossible
to achieve.
@ARTICLE PAL =
@ARTICLE PAL = <%4>Different elements can be com<%0>bined and reversed
to create complex logos and white-on-black text, even with the PCL
printers like the HP Laserjet.

@1ST PAR PAL = R<B>icoh<D> <B>Corp.<D>'s Consumer Products Group unveiled
<%6>this week a book-size<%0> copier/digitizer with optional modules
that allow it to work as a facsimile transceiver and as a PC scanning
device.
@ARTICLE PAL =
@ARTICLE PAL = The complete portable system includes the <BI>MC50<D>
copier, the IM-A image controller, and the IM-F50 facsimile interface.
@ARTICLE PAL =
@ARTICLE PAL = The MC50 sits on top of the original image, which is
pre-viewed through the 3-7/8-by-6-1/2-inch viewing glass. It then
digitizes the image, producing a <%4>copy of the same size as the<%0>
viewing area. Unlike other hand-held copiers, users do not have to
roll the unit over the original. The result is a distortion-free
image at 200-dpi density and a 200-line-per-inch resolution.
@ARTICLE PAL =
@ARTICLE PAL = Available now, the copier uses either thermal paper
rolls, plain paper, or transparent film. Measuring 12 inches by 6
inches by 1-3/4 inches and weighing 3 pounds, the copier is powered
by either AC, Nicad batteries, or <%6>an optional 12-volt DC car<%0>
converter.
@ARTICLE PAL =
@ARTICLE PAL = The $480 copier comes standard with a scanner, printer,
drive system for moving the scanner <%2>block and the platen roller,
a<%0> control section that manipulates the scanned image data and
controls the drive mechanism, and a <%4>power supply <197> either
the <%0>standard 110-volt AC or a self-contained battery pack.
@ARTICLE PAL =
@ARTICLE PAL = <%4>The <BI>IM-A<D> image controller<%0> interfaces
with most IBM-PC compatible computers and adpats <%4>the the MC50
into an image<%0> <%4>scanner that can enlarge the<%0> original up
to 200%, <%6>reduce it up to 80%, and<%0> produce half-tones, black-to-white
reversal copies, and mirror reversal copies. It also features <%6>adjustable
(three-step) copy<%0> density. It measures 5 inches by 5 inches by
1 inch and weighs 1 pound.
@ARTICLE PAL =
@ARTICLE PAL = The <BI>IM-F50<D> interface module <%4>connects the
MC50 to any<%0> modular telephone, converting the copier into a facsimile
transceiver, which acts as the scanner device for material being transmitted
or received. The IM-F50 measures 6 inches by 6 inches by 2 inches
and weighs 2 pounds. It can be powered by either AC or a built-in
Nicad battery and transmits data at 4,800 bps using a modular jack.
@ARTICLE PAL =
@ARTICLE PAL = The IM-A and IM-F50 will be available by the end of
February. <%6>The IM-A will list for $450,<%0> including the cable,
and the IM-F50 will cost $480.
