@LETTER TITLES = Thanks for the Memories
@ARTICLE PAL = <MI>I sometimes get an insufficient memory error or
my machine locks up when I try to load one of your WYSIWYG! magazines
into Ventura 1.1. What's the trick or what do I need to do to correct
this problem?
@ARTICLE PAL =
@ARTICLE PAL = <MI>Buz Warner -- Columbus, OH<D>
@ARTICLE PAL = This problem is usually overcome by changing your <B>CONFIG.SYS<D>
file to use less buffers and/or files. Some people have set these
items to rediculously high values for some reason or another, usually
because a ``friend'' has told them that the machine will run faster
with a bigger value. I would suggest that you use a value of:
@ARTICLE PAL =
@ARTICLE PAL = <B>BUFFERS = 15<D>
@ARTICLE PAL = <B>FILES = 15<D>
@ARTICLE PAL =
@ARTICLE PAL = Also check in your <B>AUTOEXEC.BAT<D> file for those
``forgotten'' memory-resident programs that you've maybe left in. Sidekick
is a no-no, and so are most resident print spoolers, and even on-screen
clock displays. You should have NO other programs resident before
loading Ventura as it needs all the memory you have. The WYSIWYG!
magazines employ lots of graphics and frames and really push your
memory to the limits. Also be sure that you are running on a machine
with a full load (640k) of memory, a 512k machine just won't hack
it!
@ARTICLE HELV =
@ARTICLE HELV =
@LETTER TITLES = Graphic File Formats
@ARTICLE HELV =
@ARTICLE PAL = <MI>I can't seem to get Ventura to load a PC Paintbrush
.PCC graphic. I pick the ``Load Text or Picture'' option, and then
PC Paintbrush image option, but Ventura seems to expect a filetype
of .PCX not .PCC. How do I get Ventura to load the .PCC files?<D>
@ARTICLE HELV =
@ARTICLE PAL = <MI>Betsy Roberds -- Smyrna, GA<D>
@ARTICLE HELV =
@ARTICLE HELV =
@ARTICLE PAL = This one gets a lot of folks confused, the .PCX and
.PCC file formats are identical. PC Paintbrush uses the .PCX extension
for regular graphic saves and the .PCC extension for ``clips'' of
larger graphics. You can either rename the .PCC files to .PCX or
even easier, just change the file filter that Ventura uses when you
go to select the file to be brought into your chapter. The default
is *.PCX and you can just erase the PCX and change it to PCC and now
load any .PCC files that you desire.

@ARTICLE PAL =
@LETTER TITLES = Modifying Frame Captions
@ARTICLE PAL =
@ARTICLE PAL = <MI>I have tried repeatedly to modify text found in
a caption under a frame and keep getting an error mesage telling me
that the text cannot be directly modified because it was generated
automatically. What the heck am I doing wrong?<D>
@ARTICLE PAL =
@ARTICLE PAL = <MI>Pete Sarnowski -- New York, NY<D>
@ARTICLE PAL =
@ARTICLE PAL =
@ARTICLE PAL = Caption text is generated and modified by selecting
the desired frame while in frame mode, then you pull down the frame
menu and pick the ``Anchors & Captions'' option. You will now see
the line of the text that was entered for the caption and can place
your cursor wherever desired and change the text to suit your needs.
@ARTICLE PAL =
@ARTICLE PAL = If you attempt to change caption text while in text
editing mode directly you will receive the error message you described.
@ARTICLE PAL =
@ARTICLE PAL =
@LETTER TITLES = TAGs and Vanishing Text
@ARTICLE PAL =
@ARTICLE PAL = <MI>Sometimes when I select a paragraph and then change
the TAG the text will vanish. What happened to the text, and is there
an easy way to get it back again?<D>
@ARTICLE PAL =
@ARTICLE PAL = <MI>Bill Johnson -- Key West, FL<D>
@ARTICLE PAL =
@ARTICLE PAL =
@ARTICLE PAL = You probably picked a TAG that used a font size to
big for the existing frame or the spacing used by the new TAG was
to big for the existing frame. Either use a smaller font size, decrease
the spacing value, or enlarge the boundaries of your frame to accomodate
the larger type size. When text vanishes try selecting ``Body Text'',
the text will usually pop right back. <188>

@ARTICLE PAL = DataCOM is the <P14B>LARGEST<P255D> desktop publishing-related
BBS System in the country. We have file areas for IBM-PC, Apple Macintosh,
and CP/M computer users. We have a vast assortment of HP Laserjet
soft font files, Postscript utilities, scanned graphics, fully produced
Ventura documents like our <BI>WYSIWYG!<D> magazine and the <BI>NPE
Monthly<D>, plus over 10,000 other files. We're not FREE, but we
are very reasonable - for $45.00 per year you have access to <F129P14M>O<F255P255D>
<B>380 megabytes <F129P14M>O<F255P255B> <D> of pre-tested (not buggy or VIRUS'ed)
online files. Three incoming modem lines on rotary help eliminate
the endless BUSY signals encountered on many other systems.

1981. There may be bigger BBS systems, but we challenge you to find
a better one! We offer a ``no questions asked'' money-back guarantee
if you're not 100% satisfied with our services.
