  12.      The WD1003-WAH controller is designed to interface with up to two 
  13.      Winchester ST506/ST412 hard disk drives in an IBM PC AT or compatible 
  14.      system and will support drives with up to 16 read/write heads and 
  15.      2048 cylinders.  Each drive may be a different configuration.
  16.      
  17.      Installation of the controller requires three steps:  1) verifying 
  18.      jumper settings; 2) installing into the host computer; 3) formatting 
  19.      the hard disk drives.  To complete installation, you will need the 
  20.      following:
  21.      
  22.      Two hard disk cables (3 if using 2 hard disk drives); Winchester hard 
  23.      disk drive; screwdriver; MSDOS Version 2.0 or later; IBM Advanced 
  24.      Diagnostic diskette (or similar program for IBM compatibles); System 
  25.      Diagnostic Diskette (or equivalent); FDISK and Format utility 
  26.      (normally included with MSDOS).

  28.                             Preparation of Controller

  30.                                      WARNING
  31.                  HANDLE THE CONTROLLER BY THE ENDS OF THE BOARD
  32.                 SOME OF THE CHIPS ARE STATIC SENSITIVE AND DAMAGE
  33.                   MAY OCCUR IF THE BOARD IS INCORRECTLY HANDLED
  34.      
  35.      Before you can install your WD1003-WAH, you will need to be certain 
  36.      that the jumpers (small shorting plugs) are correctly set.  Refer to 
  37.      Table 1 for correct jumper settings.  Modification of factory jumper 
  38.      settings is rarely necessary.  Modify jumpers only under the 
  39.      direction of a qualified individual; i.e. your dealer.

  84.                               Hardware Installation
  85.      
  86.                                      WARNING
  87.                         MAKE SURE COMPUTER IS TURNED OFF
  88.                             AND POWER IS DISCONNECTED
  89.      
  90.      1.  Verify that your host computer has at least a 135 watt power 
  91.      supply.  If the disk drive(s) is(are) being installed internally, it 
  92.      is best to locate the controller in the nearest available expansion 
  93.      slot to the drive.
  94.      
  95.      2.  Remove the blank expansion slot bracket.  Put the bracket away 
  96.      and save it for possible future use.  The screw will be used to hold 
  97.      the new controller in place.
  98.      
  99.      3.  The terminating resistor must be present only on the last hard 
  100.      disk drive connected.  If there are two drives, the terminating 
  101.      resistor must be present on the second drive.  Verify proper setting 
  102.      of drive select switches for drive select 1 or 2. Refer to your 
  103.      system owner's manual for information about proper drive termination 
  104.      and select switches.

  107.      4.  Attach 34-pin control connector pin 1 to J1 on the controller 
  108.      board.  Make sure that Pin 1 of the cable connector goes to Pin 1 on 
  109.      the controller board.  Pin 1 of the cable connector is typically 
  110.      located on the color coded side of the cable.

  112.      5.   Connect control cable to drive.
  113.      
  114.      6.   Attach 20-pin data connector to J2 (Drive C or 1).
  115.      
  116.      7.   Attach 20-pin data connector to J3 (Drive D or 2).
  117.      
  118.      8.   Connect data cables to drives.
  119.      
  120.      9.   Attach Winchester activity LED connector to J6. (IBM compatibles
  121.           only)
  122.      
  123.      10.  Install controller board into the expansion slot. Make sure that 
  124.      the board is seated properly by pressing down on both ends of the 
  125.      board.  Secure the board with the bracket screw.
  126.      
  127.                                      CAUTION
  128.                   WHEN ROUTING CABLES, BE CAREFUL NOT TO PINCH
  129.                   THEM.  CABLES MUST NOT GET CAUGHT BETWEEN THE
  130.                  COVER AND THE BOARDS, NOR SHOULD THEY OBSTRUCT
  131.                       ANY AIR FLOW PATH FROM FANS OR VENTS.
