Introduction:
VIRSTOP is a memory resident program that prevents viruses
from infecting your system. It is fully compatible with the
standard virus naming conventions and string identifiers used by
the McAfee Associates' SCAN program, and it is able to prevent
infection from all of the COM, EXE and overlay viruses detected by
the current version of SCAN. Tacoma Software Systems is committed
to keeping VIRSTOP up to date and will continue to provide full
compatibility with future versions of SCAN.
VIRSTOP is tighter, faster and less expensive than McAfee
Associates SCANRES, it does not cause the memory resident conflicts
and false alarms associated with Ross Greenberg's Flu-Shot+, and
yet it provides a high degree of protection against all known
program viruses.
VIRSTOP works by checking programs for viruses before the
programs are allowed to load into memory and execute. If a program
contains a virus, it will not be allowed to load into memory. The
virus will never get a chance to execute and cause damage to your
system or spread to other program files. If a program does not
contain a virus, the program will be allowed to load and execute
normally and VIRSTOP will go back to sleep until the next program
load and execute request is made.
If a program is found to contain a virus, VIRSTOP will
identify the strain of virus that has caused the infection.
VIRSTOP can identify 60 major virus strains and numerous
sub-varieties for each strain. The 60 viruses are:

How to run VIRSTOP:
NOTE: Copy VIRSTOP.EXE to a floppy and then write protect the
floppy prior to installing it. This will provide a known working
backup copy in the event that the program becomes infected.
To install VIRSTOP, place the following line at the beginning
of your AUTOEXEC.BAT file:
VIRSTOP
Then copy the file VIRSTOP.EXE to the root directory of your
bootable hard drive.
VIRSTOP will activate each time the system is powered-on or
re-booted. It checks the critical areas of the system for viruses,
including the partition table, boot sector, hidden system files and
itself, and then monitors all program loads. As programs are
loaded, VIRSTOP will scan the programs for viruses. If a virus is
found, VIRSTOP will display a warning message and name the
infection. The infected program will not be loaded.
