  12. Download ACCESS.ZIP if you do not have SHELL.DLL.  Miscrosoft
  13. Windows 3.1 Beta Testers should download ACCESD.ZIP.  ACCESD.ZIP
  14. is compiled using the Windows 3.0 compiler and imports
  15. Microsoft's SHELL.DLL, not included, for drag drop testing in
  16. the Windows 3.0 and 3.1 environments.  If you don't know what
  17. SHELL.DLL is or means: Download ACCESS.ZIP; because ACCESD.ZIP
  18. will NOT launch for you.  If you don't have SHELL.DLL, don't
  19. worry.  This means that Accesses will be ready for you when
  20. Windows 3.1 is released...  Because you'll have SHELL.DLL with
  21. Windows 3.1!
  22.  
  23. Accesses Version 2.1 has many enhancements designed specifically
  24. for Norton Desktop that other users can use!
  25.  
  26. Accesses is bug free again, at least Version 2.1.  I apologize
  27. for the problems that were installed when I rushed thru the
  28. Norton Desktop fixes before  and during the holidays...  Boy,
  29. I made a mess of 1.1 and 1.1A.  Because of the holidays,
  30. neither 1.1 or 1.1A were beta tested.  I learned!
  31.  
  32. Accesses Version 2.1 will now dial your modem for voice
  33. calls on your phone...  Talk about accessing Windows...
  34.  
  35. The primary feature of Accesses benefits those of us who
  36. hate to keep dragging windows to specific positions.  Accesses
  37. moves the windows to where you want.  I thought about calling
  38. Accesses "The Juggler" or maybe "Windows's Jugular" (not a
  39. spelling error).
  40.  
  41. ACCESSES is a MUST program for Windows users.
  42.  
  43. Accesses is addictive. Launch programs from any program and
  44. Accesses will place that program in your preset startup
  45. position.  It doesn't matter if that program was closed in
  46. the wrong position the last time you ran it.
  47.  
  48. If you hate dragging windows to your normal locations, Touch
  49. Accesses with the right mouse button, then touch any window,
  50. even a DOS window for 386 systems, and the window will be
  51. placed in your preferred window position or any of 8 user
  52. configurable "generic" positions.
  53.  
  54. How much programming do you have to do?  None.  You move a
  55. window and say save this!  But you do have to read Accesses's
  56. Tutor, about 5-10 minutes; because Accesses is a unique
  57. one-of-a-kind Windows program.
  58.  
  59. ********   PLACING AND CLOSING WINDOWS   ********
  60.  
  61. Accesses replaces your Windows Task Manager with a program
  62. that does much more than switch between applications.  You
  63. can select 1, 2,..., up to ALL of your windows from the
  64. Accesses Task Manager and have them:
  65.  
  66. 1.    Closed.
  67.  
  68. 2.    Placed in their default positions.
  69.  
  70. 3.    Minimized, Hidden
  71.  
  72. 4.    Split the screen.  Have one show on the Top half and
  73.       the other on the Bottom half of your screen
  74.  
  75. 5.    Moved to overlapping Quadrants on your screen, top
  76.       right, top left, bottom right, bottom left
  77.  
  78. 6.    Moved to top right, top left, bottom right, bottom
  79.       left, right half, left half, maximized, minimized,
  80.       tiled, cascaded, above icons, arrange icons, hide, swap
  81.       apps and icons,...
  82.  
  83. 5.    Shot?  Well, almost.  With Accesses you can destroy
  84.       some windows that won't close; although, this is a
  85.       non-standard exiting procedure for most windows;
  86.       however, this is a windows procedure.
  87.  
  88. All of this is easily configurable.  (Note: Version 2.1
  89. significantly enhances this feature.)  You decide what Top
  90. half means.  You decide what Default means.  You move a
  91. window to the position that you are defining and tell
  92. Accesses that's what you want defined for Top Half, or
  93. that's where you want all of your Notepad's to start up,
  94. except you want "Notepad - WIN.INI" to always start up here,
  95. and "Notepad - SYSTEM.INI" to start over there, and Winword
  96. to start up there,...  Or you shoot the window (destroy).
  97.  
  98. What if they are already started up and 3 hours later your
  99. screen is a mess.  Select one or all the windows and tell
  100. Accesses to put them back to where you wanted them.
  101.  
  102. What if you don't want to define a window's position.  For
  103. example, you are testing a program downloaded from a
  104. bulletin board.  Launch that program; touch Accesses pop-up
  105. window with the right mouse button; select one of 8 generic
  106. positions that can be used for all applications; touch the
  107. window you want moved.  This is easier to do than to
  108. explain.  Its fun to do as well.
  109.  
  110. Up to a ridiculous 1024 window positions can be defined;
  111. although I haven't seen a need for defining more than 100
  112. positions.  I mean, you normally want your Windows for
  113. particular programs in one spot, but occasionally you want
  114. one to always start up in a different spot when it has a
  115. particular document.
  116.  
  117. How hard is this to set up?  So easy that Accesses does the
  118. 1st initialization when you 1st start Accesses.  Before you
  119. start Accesses for the 1st time, the README.TXT file asks
  120. you to launch and place programs to where you want them to
  121. start up.  This way Accesses already has this information
  122. when it 1st starts.  How about adding more afterwards.
  123. Place those windows and ask Accesses to save those too.
  124.  
  125. ********   SAVING FOLDERS   ********
  126.  
  127. Accesses will save up to 10 different folders and each
  128. folder can have up to 20 programs included in it.  A folder
  129. is a list of programs that you currently have running and
  130. that you want to run later as a group.  Minimize the
  131. programs that you don't want saved in a folder and save the
  132. others to use when you start Windows the next time.
  133.  
  134. Oh my gosh.  You've launched the wrong desktop.  Do you have
  135. to wait for all 20 programs to launch to stop Accesses?
  136. WhatDoYouThink?  Click the mouse and the mess stops.
  137.  
  138. A folder can include multiple documents for MDI (Multiple
  139. Document Interface Programs).  Accesses has a Table of up to
  140. ten programs that you can define to "Run only ONE copy" and
  141. load all other documents into that one program.
  142.  
  143. You can launch a folder from a Program Manager icon using a
  144. command line like Accesses.exe !FolderNo8 and Folder Number
  145. 8 will be launched.
  146.  
  147. ********   MDI programs -  like WINWORD   ********
  148.  
  149. This "Run only ONE copy" will work when you double click on
  150. a document name from a program that uses the WIN.INI
  151. extensions to load a document.  For the computer jocks, from
  152. Accesses you can modify the WIN.INI extension to something
  153. like the following:
  154.  
  155.     doc=accesses.exe winword.exe ^.doc
  156.  
  157. And from File Manager or Program Manager you can launch that
  158. document.  If Winword is not running Accesses will launch it
  159. with that document.  However, if Winword is already running,
  160. Accesses will load that document into the existing copy of
  161. Winword or for any 9 other MDI programs, Excel, etc.
  162.  
  163. You can even set up folders for just Winword to be loaded
  164. with multiple documents.
  165.  
  166. **** LAUNCHING and PLACING Programs from other Programs *****
  167.  
  168. For example, Program Manager uses a command line to run
  169. programs from the Icons displayed in Program Manager.  Say
  170. you have an Icon set up with the command line:
  171.  
  172.    NOTEPAD.EXE WIN.INI.
  173.  
  174. You can change the command line to:
  175.  
  176.    ACCESSES.EXE NOTEPAD.EXE WIN.INI
  177.  
  178. And then Accesses will launch Notepad with the WIN.INI
  179. document and then place notepad where you have it defined to
  180. start up.  The same goes for any other program.  Eg.  For
  181. 386 computers: "Accesses.exe DOS.PIF dosprogram.exe" will
  182. move the DOS window to where you have it defined.
  183.  
  184. Accesses has its own user configurable menu where the user
  185. can add their favorite utilities to launch.  Ctrl+Esc from
  186. any program and launch another program from Accesses.
  187. Ctrl+Shift+Esc from any Windows program opens a Run Dialog
  188. box where you can select from another menu of Accesses, or
  189. launch any program from your Windows directory, or click to
  190. another directory to launch a program.  While launching
  191. programs, you'll want to monitor memory usage....
  192.  
  193. ********   MEMORY DISPLAYS and USAGE   ********
  194.  
  195. Accesses pop-up can be configured to display % Resource
  196. Memory Free, and/or Date, and/or Global Memory Free, and/or
  197. time.  The pop-up window of Accesses always stays on top of
  198. the other windows and can be made as small as the word
  199. Format on a menu bar.  You can Hide the pop-up if you don't
  200. like pop-ups; but some of the Mouse Click features of
  201. Accesses will be disabled.  I don't think you'll want to
  202. hide the pop-up.  You can even configure Accesses to hide
  203. itself after so many minutes of inactivity so that it does
  204. not pop on top of screen blankers or so that it gets out of
  205. your way when you don't need it.
  206.  
  207. "Off the WALL Software" always concentrates on Minimizing
  208. Resource Memory used.  While in the background, Accesses
  209. uses less than 1% of your System Resource Memory.  Accesses
  210. switches task list modes depending on resource memory
  211. available and can operate on as little as 1-2% resource
  212. memory; although, you shouldn't run windows with such low
  213. memory.
  214.  
  215. How many copies of Accesses are running at one time?  Only
  216. one.  Accesses is now your Task Manager and replaces
  217. TASKMAN.EXE.  To be fast, Accesses does keep some of itself
  218. in Global Memory.  Users normally have no problem with
  219. Global Memory usage.
  220.  
  221. Accesses is NOT using a windows hook, so Accesses is not
  222. slowing your computer down.  The only significant resource
  223. used is a total of one timer for the alarms/memory gauge.
  224.  
  225. ********   MOUSE CLICK FUNCTIONS   ********
  226.  
  227. The mouse cursor changes to show you the Left Mouse Double
  228. click and a Right Mouse Single Click functions when you move
  229. the cursor over the Accesses pop-up window.  You can mouse
  230. click on Accesses to:
  231.  
  232. 1.    Pop your main menu to the top focus
  233. 2.    List your System Information: Hard Disk Space
  234.       Available, Floppy disk space available, floppy disk
  235.       size, Windows operating mode,...
  236. 3.    Open a Run Programs Dialog Box where you can launch
  237.       programs.
  238. 4.    Open a Move next window by mouse clicking dialog box
  239. 5.    Open the Task List
  240. 6.    And up to 5 more windows can be "Attached" to pop to
  241.       the top when Accesses is clicked in a particular
  242.       position similar to your main menu above.
  243.  
  244. ********   ALARMS   ********
  245.  
  246. Up to ten alarms can be set for either today or as a daily
  247. alarm.  Daily alarms are saved to Accesses.ini.
  248.  
  249. ********   PHONE CALLING   ********
  250.  
  251. Accesses uses your modem to dial a phone number from a
  252. directory that you can configure. What else can I say.
  253.  
  254. ********   Shareware   ********
  255.  
  256. Accesses Version 2.1 also provides the unregistered user the
  257. option of deinstalling the SYSTEM.INI changes on exit.
  258.  
  259. Accesses is Shareware.  For now, the registration cost is
  260. $24.  Unregistered copies have a 12 second message built
  261. into the startup and a shorter message built into the shutdown;
  262. otherwise, unregistered copies are fully functional.
  263.  
  264. If you knew how much work went into Accesses, you wouldn't
  265. believe how cheap it is.
