CONTENTS v2.0
------------- 01/12/90
The worlds fastest, smallest, easiest Disk Cataloger. CONTENTS will produce
three ASCII-editable lists which can be printed out:
CONTENTS.LST - Work-list of files in original sequence.
CONTFILE.SRT - List of files sorted alphabetically by filename.
CONTDISK.SRT - List of files sorted alphabetically by diskname.
Using CONTENTS.BAT
------------------
1. Place CONTENTS.BAT, ELF.COM, LABEL.EXE, MORE.COM, SORT.EXE, and XUP.EXE
all on one floppy disk, one HD directory, or anywhere on your hard disk
PATH.
2. The command is "contents [dr1:\path] [diskname] [dr2:\path]"
dr1:\path = the source (disk or HD DIR you wish to catalogue).
NOTE: NO "\" at the end.
diskname = the name you assign to the disk (not "Volume Label").
I use a simple A-001 to A-100; B-001 to B-100; etc.
numbering system and write the numbers physically on
my disks (or use gummed labels for neatness).
NOTE: Diskname as CONTENTS.BAT is now configured MUST be between
five and seven (5-7) characters long and include NO spaces
in order to insure proper sorting.
BUT: It is adjustable by making two minor changes in the program
where indicated by "REM *"
dr2:\path = the target (disk or DIR which will contain CONTENTS.* files).
3. EXAMPLES:
contents a: GAM-001 b:
contents c:\dos HD-DOS a:
contents c: root c:\data
contents b: A-005 b: (this will work too, but kinda silly)
4. For dual Floppy drives, use the same disk containing CONTENTS.BAT and
the other work files as the "target" disk and your other drive for the
"source" disk. You can transfer the resulting lists to another disk
after the cataloguing session.
5. The "View", "Label", "Continue", "Sort", and "Columnize" options are
simply responded to by a "y" or "n". Easy, eh?
6. The files CONTENTS.LST, CONTDISK.SRT, CONTFILE.SRT, CONTDISK.COL, and
CONTFILE.COL are included as examples of the final product(s) and may
be deleted.
Using XUP.EXE
-------------
1. At the prompt, type in either CONTDISK.SRT or CONTFILE.SRT, a comma ","
and a unique filename.ext for the file to be created in column format.
Do NOT enter any spaces in this command.
2. EXAMPLE: contdisk.srt,contdisk.col
3. At the next prompt (#columns, col width, #lines), type in 3,28,58 for
best results. The resulting file is completely printable using the a
common DOS PRN command, and includes printer paging codes. All set to
print out (see CONTDISK.COL and CONTFILE.COL).
