* Enter "F?" for help with the F)iles command
* Enter "D?" for help with the D)on\wnload command
.
.
* And so on for all the commands you see in the menu.
(Don't enter the quotes, just the command letter and theì
questionmark.)
- Control-C Aborts Commands/text display
- Control-K Aborts Commands/text display
- Control-S Pauses Commands/text display -
press any key to continue.
\F
F)iles displays a list of the files available for download inì
this File Area. You can list files selectively using MSDOSì
"wildcards"; for example, "F *.EXE" lists all files withì
extention .EXE, etc.
\D
D)ownload sends files from Fido TO YOU. First, you are asked forì
the file transfer protocol to use (you can get specific help atì
that point), then the name(s) of the file(s) you wish toì
download.
Please refer to the documentation for YOUR terminal program onì
how to download. You must complete your download within theì
remaining amount of your time limit. (Fido will warn you at theì
right time.)
\U
U)pload sends files from your computer TO FIDO. First, you areì
asked for the file transfer protocol to use (you can get ì
specific help at that point), then the name(s) of the file(s) ì
you wish to upload.
Please refer to the documentation for YOUR terminal program onì
how to upload. You must complete your upload within the remainingì
amount of your time limit. (Fido will warn you at the rightì
time.)
\A
A)rea-Change lets you choose one of the available File Areas inì
the system. Files are generally grouped into File Areas by typeì
of program, etc., as determined by the System Operator.
The various FILE SECTION commands operate only within the ì
current File Area. ** NOTE that the L)ocate command is an ì
exception to this rule; see below **
\T
T)ype displays a text file on your screen.
- Control-C Aborts Commands/text display
- Control-K Aborts Commands/text display
- Control-S Pauses Commands/text display -
press any key to continue.
\S
S)tatistics displays various statistics about your connection toì
Fido.
\L
L)ocate can be used to search for a file, or files, across ALLì
File Areas. You can use the MSDOS "wildcard" characters at theì
prompt for the file to locate. You might use this command toì
locate in which File Area a particular file resides.
"L filename.ext" will list each File Area and all occurrences ofì
the file it finds.
\R
R)aw-Display is similar to the DOS "DIR" command, except that itì
lists hidden files and subdirectories. It does NOT refer to theì
Fido file list, "FILES.BBS", for the file descriptions.
\K
K)ill-File is similar to the MSDOS "DEL" command; it deletes allì
occurrences of the file(s) in the current File Area. It alsoì
removes all matching names from the file list, "FILES.BBS".
*** WARNING *** It will NOT ask "Yes or No" if you specify "*.*".
\O
O)verride-Path is used to specify a DOS subdirectory for the ì
FILE SECTION commands to operate on, instead of the normal Fileì
Area.
** NOTE ** This command is usually made available to the SYSOP.
\G
G)oodbye: Log-off of Fido. Depending upon the implementation ofì
Fido on this system, you may be prompted to optionally enter aì
Private message to the SYSOP before you are logged off. Afterì
log-off, you will be disconnected.
It is safe to "Hang Up" on Fido; it is never harmful.
\M
M)ain-Menu returns you to the MAIN SECTION, the first menu ofì
commands you see when you log into Fido. From there, you canì
return to the FILES SECTION or go into the MESSAGE SECTION.
