  1.  DECcomm Version 5.01 Release Notes

  4.  This version of DECCOMM implements nearly complete support for
  5.  the    Revision   5  FOSSIL  specification.    Opus  1.10  and
  6.  BinkleyTerm 2.00 use extended Rev 5 features to get more speed
  7.  on fast modems.    (And  in  the  case  of  Binkley  2.00, the
  8.  external function support is used for Video FOSSIL!)

  10.  To  my  knowledge,  the  only  significant omission from  this
  11.  driver  is  the  lack of support for XON/XOFF as  a  restraint
  12.  mechanism on the Receive side.  There are probably a few minor
  13.  nuances that I will have to address, but by and large, DECCOMM
  14.  is compliant with the Revision 5 specification.  This includes
  15.  support for 5, 6,  7,  and  8  data  bits;    odd, even and no
  16.  parity;    1  or  2    stop  bits;    and  support  for  BREAK
  17.  transmission.

  19.  This version of DECcomm  therefore  differs from Rev 3 in some
  20.  minor respects, and if you  are using Ron Bemis' OUTER program
  21.  (or  CALLTIME)  you should contact him  about  getting  a  new
  22.  version.

  24.  ALSO -- unlike prior releases of DECcomm,  this  one  actually
  25.  snags  the  serial  interrupt rather than using MS-DOS  calls.
  26.  This was for purposes of speed, and the gain  was significant.
  27.  But this means that you can't do all the things  with  Opus or
  28.  whatever  active,  that you used to (like using LC-Term).  You
  29.  also should  explore  the FOSLAUX driver as an option for some
  30.  of your AUX port  stuff.  Of course there's always BinkleyTerm
  31.  as a simple terminal package.

  33.  Now the good  news.   If you have been thinking about buying a
  34.  fast modem but ...  "why bother, the Rainbow isn't fast enough
  35.  to drive it!", I have  some  interesting  information for you.
  36.  Opus 1.10 can drive a Telebit  at  about 1400 CPS on a Rainbow
  37.  with  this  driver.  With  maximum  compression on a  USR HST, 
  38.  BinkleyTerm 2.00 is getting 1885 CPS. So if you are spending a
  39.  lot of time  transferring  data  you  might explore high-speed
  40.  modems.
