PC Dashboard (tm) - Additional Program Information - 4/27/89
---------------------------------------------------------------
This file contains important information that is not covered in your
PC Dashboard User's Manual . . .
------------
UPGRADING FROM MENU MASTER ?
If you are upgrading from Menu Master 1.50 or 2.12, you should be aware that
PC Dashboard (PCD) keeps track of your menu settings in a different manner
from Menu Master. Because of this, your Menu Master menu settings file
(MENU.STG or MMSTR.STG) will NOT be recognized by PCD. You will need to
re-enter all of your previous menu settings into PCD. (Sorry!)
We suggest that you print out the Menu Master .STG file and use it as
reference in re-keying your settings. Re-entering settings shouldn't take
very long and will give you a chance to take advantage of PC Dashboard's
many enhanced features.
Also, be sure to delete Menu Master's MENU.BAT file before installing
PC Dashboard onto your hard disk. PC Dashboard also makes use of a file
entitled MENU.BAT, which is different in content from the one used by Menu
Master.
------------
UPGRADING FROM EARLIER VERSION OF PC DASHBOARD ?
To upgrade from an earlier version to PCD v1.12, simply copy the v1.12
files into your computer's C:\PCDASH subdirectory, overwriting any older
files by the same name. At a minimum, you should use the new PCDASH.EXE,
MENU.BAT, and PCD.BAT files (all of these have changed). If you received
your copy from No Sweat Software, you can use the INSTALL.EXE program to do
this upgrade for you. Simply place the program disk into Drive A, and enter
A:INSTALL. The INSTALL.EXE program will guide you through a couple of very
easy steps.
------------
USING A MONOCHROME (NON-COLOR) MONITOR ?
Earlier versions of PC Dashboard had trouble displaying properly on some
monochrome composite-type monitors. Beginning with Version 1.07, the FIRST
time PC Dashboard is run, you will be asked whether or not you are using a
color monitor. Your monitor-type will be recorded in the PCDASH.CFG file
and you'll not be asked this question again, unless PCDASH.CFG is erased for
some reason. You can switch between color and monochrome modes if you wish
later by re-setting the new "Color Display" option in the System Options
Window ( /SO ). See Page 31 in the Licensed User's Manual for information
on changing System Options.
------------
Returning from "DOS Gateway" - the EXIT Command:
As long as you use the MENU.BAT and PCD.BAT files that come with version 1.08
(and beyond), there is no need to worry about loading PC Dashboard on top of
itself. the manual warns against typing "MENU" to return from a "Gateway" or
DOS Shell session (see Page 24 in Licensed User's Manual). Beginning with
version 1.08, you may type "MENU" or "EXIT" without any concern of running
out of memory. PC Dashboard will not load another copy on top of itself in
memory.
------------
PCDSH1.ARC File has been changed
Your manual will reference the PCDSH1.ARC file as the proper archived format
of PC Dashboard's evaluation version for uploading to electronic bulletin
boards. With the introduction of Version 1.10, the name of this file has
been changed to PCDSH6.ARC.
