  18.      VFONT contains and loads replacement fonts for VGA systems; it
  19.      includes two variations of a "modern" font, and a handwritten "scrawl"
  20.      font.

  22.      This is a "terminate-and-stay-resident" program that takes up
  23.      approximately 4.5K.  It can be unloaded with TSR utilities, such as
  24.      the excellent MARK/RELEASE (version 2.2 or later, earlier versions
  25.      don't save enough video information and the system will hang upon a
  26.      RELEASE).

  28.      VFONT          This loads the solid-line, modern font (modern-s). I
  29.                     prefer this font GREATLY to the lousy default VGA ROM
  30.                     font.  Solid-line means what usually appears as double-
  31.                     line line-drawing characters is rendered as a thicker
  32.                     solid line.
  33.  
  34.      VFONT /D       This loads the modern font with the double-line line-
  35.                     drawing characters (modern-d) as they are in the
  36.                     default font for the traditional among you.

  38.      VFONT /S       This loads Scrawl, a handwritten-looking "scrawled"
  39.                     font.  Peoples' reaction to this font ranges from
  40.                     horror to delight.  Personally, I like it (for short
  41.                     stretches anyway) it makes the computer screen less
  42.                     perfect and even, more organic (!).

  44.                     Even if you don't like it, its a great gag font - put
  45.                     it on your co-workers computer today!  Scrawl is an
  46.                     extensively re-worked version of a public-domain font
  47.                     (which had no name).

  49.      VFONT /L       This loads Scrawl with the added attraction of
  50.                     scrawled, wiggly line-drawing characters!
  51.  
  52.      VFONT /?       This summarizes your options and exits.  It does not
  53.                     remain resident.
  54.  
  55.      VFONT remains in place even if your software sets the video mode.
  56.      This means the font won't "go away" with certain programs like the
  57.      font loader from PC Magazine (these fonts were designed with their
  58.      font editor tho', thanks).  It is only active in text modes.  VFONT
  59.      also corrects an EGA/VGA BIOS bug that incorrectly calculates the
  60.      "video text page" length after a font is loaded.

  62.      The memory-hungry among us (all of us, I would guess) may rest assured
  63.      that the only font to remain resident is the one you've chosen.
  64.      However, if you keep typing VFONT to load different fonts, each
  65.      invocation of VFONT stays resident.  This behavior will be improved in
  66.      future releases.

  68.      P.S.: VFONT IS ONLY TO BE RUN ON VGA-EQUIPPED SYSTEMS.  It does not
  69.      itself check for the presence of a VGA.

  71.      P.P.S.: The font Scrawl is not a Deutsche Industrie-Norm (DIN)
  72.      ergonomic standard.

  76.      VFONT is copyrighted by clySmic software, and is released as
  77.      "Freeware".

  80.      not sell or otherwise charge for VFONT.  However, users' groups may
  81.      charge a small fee (not to exceed $7) for media and postage.
