Throughout the centuries, people have wrestled with the challenge of inventing a machine which would allow them to fly. Here are some highlights in the history of flight:
1500: Wan Hu, a Chinese scientist, died after tying 47 rockets to the back of his chair.
1865: American engineer thought of using the power of ten eagles to lift a circular frame containing a passenger. It was seriously reported in an American science magazine, but apparently never tested.
1783: First hot-air balloon flight to carry a man was made by the Montgolfier brothers of France.
