SPEAR OF DESTINY MAPS
Contained in this archive are all 21 maps for Spear of Destiny, the
Wolfenstein 3D sequel. This includes maps for 18 regular levels (4 of
which contain bosses!), 2 secret levels, and the final "Death Angel"
level in which you fight the Devil himself.
These maps were created with P. Hosken's Wolfmap version 4.1. This
utility may be found on many BBSs as WMAP41.ZIP. In order to produce
the maps it was necessary to modify the data files WMAPOBJ.DAT and
WMAPWALL.DAT to include the hexidecimal codes and print symbols for
the many new objects and wall types in Spear of Destiny. Although I
feel I have picked print symbols that accurately and attractively
represent the objects and wall types, I have included the data files
with my modifications so that you may change the print symbols to a
selection of a selection of your choice. To do this you must download
Wolfmap 4.1 and replace the two data files with mine. You must also
copy MAPHEAD.SOD and GAMEMAPS.SOD into the directory containing
Wolfmap and the new data files, then rename them to MAPHEAD.WL6 and
GAMEMAPS.WL6, respectively. Note that some of the objects that appear
in the data files are not used in Spear of Destiny, such as the Pacman
ghosts and floating fake Hitlers. I have left these in the data files
to allow for backward compatibility of the data files for mapping
Wolfenstein 3D levels. It does not hurt to leave these definitions in;
Wolfmap simply ignores them if it does not encounter the hexidecimal
codes which define them. I have also included the file MAP.KEY. This
file contains the key explaining all objects and wall elements in the
maps. I have included this key at the bottom of all maps.
These maps use extended ascii characters extensively for graphical
representation of objects, etc. To print them as intended, you must
copy them to a printer with a font that supports the extended ascii
(sometimes knows as the IBM extended) character set. On a HP Laserjet
this character set is known as PC-8. You must also set your printer to
print at 8 lines per inch vertical spacing and 16.67 or 17 characters
per inch horizontal spacing (pitch). There is s shareware program
called the Laserjet Setup Utility (LSU) which allows one to do this
conveniently from the command line. Actually I use LSU just to set the
8 lines per inch vertical spacing after manually setting the font
from the Laserjet III's control panel (internal font 38 on mine). From
there, simply copy the map files to the printer as follows:
COPY *.MAP PRN
