  2.  \|/        hykulnjb: single move in specified direction
  3. h-+-l        HYKULNJB: repeated move in specified direction
  4.  /|\              (until stopped by e.g. a wall)
  5. b j n        g<dir>:   fast movement in direction <dir>
  6.               (until something interesting is seen)
  7.         m<dir>:   move without picking up objects
  8.  
  9. Meta commands:
  10. Q    quit    leave the game
  11. S    save    save the game (to be continued later)
  12. !    sh    escape to some SHELL
  13. ^Z    suspend suspend the game (independent of your current suspend char)
  14. O    set    set options
  15. ?    help    print information
  16. /    whatis    give name (and sometimes more info) of specified monster
  17. \    known    print list of what's been discovered
  18. v    version    print version number
  19. V    history    print game history.
  20. ^R    redraw    redraw the screen (^R denotes the symbol CTRL/R)
  21. ^P    print    repeat last message  (subsequent ^P's repeat earlier messages)
  22. #        introduces a long command (# ? for list of long commands)

  26. a    apply, use  use something (a key, camera, etc.)

  30. i    invent    list the inventory (all objects you are carrying)
  31. I    invent    list selected parts of the inventory
  32.         IU: list unpaid objects
  33.         IX: list unpaid but used up items
  34.         I$: count your money
  35. p    pay    pay your bill
  36. q    drink    quaff a potion
  37. r    read    read a scroll
  38. s    search    search for secret doors, hidden traps and monsters
  39. t    throw    throw or shoot a weapon
  40. w    wield    wield a weapon    (w-  wield nothing)
  41. x    spells    print a list of know spells
  42. X    Xcribe    transcribe (learn) a spell
  43. z    zap    zap a wand
  44. X    cast    cast a spell
  45. C    name    name an individual monster (e.g., baptize your dog)
  46. D    Drop    drop several things
  47. E    Engrave write a message in the dust on the floor  (E-  use fingers)
  48. P    wear    put on a ring
  49. R    remove    remove a ring
  50. W    wear    put on some armor
  51. T    remove    take off some armor
  52. A    remove    take off some or all armor
  53. <    up    go up the stairs
  54. >    down    go down the stairs
