JKey V1.0
If you've used terminals or workstations that provide a "compose"
key, you'll already have an idea of what JKey can do. JKey allows
mnemonic sequences to be entered to achieve the keyboard entry of
a difficult character. For instance, the copyright symbol (⌐) is
composed of the letters 'C' and 'O'; the 1/2 symbol (╜) is composed
of the numbers '1' and '2'.
JKey provides such functionality and more:
- you can define your own sequences.
- unlike some keyboard macro applications, you are not limited
to defining a single key as a trigger. You can define easily
remembered mnemonic triggers.
- you can define sequences that result in the current date and
time, formatted to your specifications.
- you can define application-specific compose sequences.
- you can control your keyboard's behavior. For instance, you
can have the Caps Lock key always upper case characters, switch
the behavior of the Ctrl and Caps Lock keys, and control the
state of NumLock and ScrollLock.
Notes about this first version:
- There is no installation program, it must be installed
by hand, which is described below.
- Startup performance during everyday use can be increased
by starting JKey minimized. This delays the loading of the
main JKey form.
- Certain applications (e.g. terminal emulators) might not
work well with JKey. For these apps, edit the JKEY.INI
file found in your Windows directory and add the following
section:
[PostStringApps]
Nbr=2
App1=winqvt.exe
App2=winvt.exe
*** Installation is currently done by hand:
1. Create a \JKEY directory
2. Copy JKEY.EXE, JKEY2.DLL, JKEY.TXT, JKEY.DAT, JKEY.HLP to \JKEY
3. You also need the following in your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory:
VBRUN300.DLL, COMMDLG.DLL, CMDIALOG.VBX, GRID.VBX, THREED.VBX
These are supplied with JKey, compare file dates to ensure that
older versions do not overwrite newer versions.
Thank you.
