LZ 1.01
8th February, 1991
Written by Jonathan Forbes
Copyright © 1990, 1991, Xenomiga Technology
Version 1.01 of LZ fixes almost all (if not all) bugs in LZ 0.91 in
addition to providing 3-5% better compression (while remaining 100% compatible
with the LZH format), and an average speed increase of over 200% in compression
peaking at over 300% for highly compressible files, such as text files.
However, this release of LZ 1.01 has been severely crippled. This is
because LZ is not, and has never been, free; it is a shareware product, and if
it is used, it should be paid for. The version of LZ 1.01 you currently
possess is an evaluation copy, and will not process archives containing files
larger than 60,000 bytes; if, after using the software for a short evaluation
period you believe you like the software, you should send the required
shareware donation to become a registered user of LZ, at which point you will
receive a fully operational version of LZ. Details about becoming a registered
user are in the file LZ101.DOC.
If you are already a registered user of LZ (i.e. you have sent in a
donation), you may freely download the fast, fully operational version from:
Xenomiga BBS
(416)-921-6638
1200-19200 baud HST
24 hours/day
Just leave me a message indicating that you are a registered user, and want
the fully operational version.
Or, if it is more convenient for you to receive the latest version via mail,
you may do one of the following:
1: Send $4 (Cdn. or U.S.) and your address to Xenomiga Technology. I will
supply the disk.
2: Send $2 (Cdn. or U.S.), a floppy disk, and your address, to Xenomiga
Technology.
3: Send two floppy disks (one must be new and double sided) and your
address, to Xenomiga Technology.
The address to send to is:
Xenomiga Technology
1132 Bay Street, Suite #1101
Toronto, Ontario
M5S 2Z4
Canada
Registered users will always be able to freely download/receive via mail
the latest version of LZ; registration is a once-only fee.
I am fully aware that 99.99% of all of the people who use LZ regularly or
even semi-regularly, have not paid for it, and have absolutely no intention of
doing so. I cannot allow this to continue; thus, the crippling of LZ 1.0.
