========================== FontConvert 1.0 ===========================
======================================================================
A printer font conversion program, written by Olaf 'Olsen' Barthel of
MXM. Copyright, © 1990 by MXM. Shareware, all rights reserved. No
guarantee of any kind is made that the program(s) described in this
document are 100% reliable. You use this material on your own risk.
============================== Purpose ===============================
======================================================================
I just got rid of my ol' faithful Epson 9-pin printer and soon
discovered that my new printer supports user defined printer fonts.
Since I didn't want to buy a whole lot of font cards I thought
'couldn't I upload my Amiga fonts to the printer?'.
As it turns out, this little cutie handles this job for you.
Select the font you want (any size), the styles you want it to
receive, if it should be sent to the printer, to a disk file or both
and if your printer accepts 256 custom characters or 128 and watch it
fly!
=============================== Usage ================================
======================================================================
Make sure that you have req.library and diskfont.library (WB 1.3
revision!) in LIBS:, serial.device or parallel.device (depends on your
printer connection) and printer.device in DEVS:.
Start the program (it is pure!) and watch the window open on your
default screen (the gadget stuff is created dynamically and will
probably look u-g-l-y with a nonstandard custom font under Kickstart
2.0 -sorry!).
There are about seven gadgets displayed in the window:
Make the font underlined....... Set the font style for the font to be
converted.
Make the font bold............. Guess what?
Make the font italicized....... " "
Convert 256 characters......... Select this button if your printer
supports definition of 256 characters
(well, 217 actually). Not all printer
models will support this option. If
your hardware doesn't support it it
will probably spill all the secret
codes it has been taught by the KGB
(unless it is stopped).
Capture to file................ Convert the font and send it to a disk
file. Use this if you don't want to
convert your fonts again and again.
Just copy the captured file to PAR:
or SER: (as always depends on your
printer connection).
Send font to printer........... This is the default, copy the font to
the printer currently connected to the
serial or parallel port (depends on
the current preferences settings).
Start conversion............... Turns on the printer and starts the
font conversion (what did you
expect?).
The font scaling routine isn't the most powerful ever created. Some
fonts will look crude, some will appear to come out in a very low
resolution.
For best results keep the following rules of thumb in mind:
- Fonts which are an even number of lines high will look smoother than
those which are an uneven number of lines high.
- Fonts which have to be scaled down will look uglier than those which
have to be magnified.
- Fonts which are between 20 and 40 lines high will look best.

V1.0 Does it work? Really? Can't believe it!

Do only its possibilities make it an Amiga?
WHERE IS THE MAGIC ???
