zoom gadget/ 2.0 DNews crashes amiga?
DNEWS, run from ICONX
check dnews run from project icon (workbench)
DNEWS:
:- Font awareness is lacking. I use a font that purposely compresses
: the width of the chars so that up to 88 chars per line can be displayed
: instead of the normal 78.
:
:- Math for the "ACTUAL" number of unread articles is not correct for
: groups that have been partially read using the "M" options. It
: appears to be = (Last article - First unread).
:
:- Article count reset when leaving a newsgroup.
:
:- Pager ability to move by single lines also.
:
:And a personal desire...
:
:- In newsgroup reader window, I'd like to see a
: "comp.sys.amiga/1132 of ####"
: type of display showing the end of items number.
:
:
news-waiting message doesn't work. not impl yet ?
DNews: check font and calculate window size / character mapping accordingly
DNews: add summary subject window
DNews: initial create, allow all msgs instead of last 49
tabs
line wraps
Personal-Replies to configured MBOX.
>In article ... should remove the >
Kill by Subject: as well as Reference, wildcards in the Subject klil
DNews: does not check Config paths, requires UULIB: ?
DNEWs do not force use of mouse (cmds for keyboard)
DNEWS reverse video
DNEWS goto doesn't update screen.
DNEWS leaves temp files in RAM (problem with postnews?)
DNEWS update count when move to different group (in main window)
UUSER: timeout, ^C, flow control
----------------------------- DNEWS --------------------
-print article to printer option
:- Backspace key should page back a screen in news article. (I find the
: keypad keys uncomfortable).
:
:- Help key as well as 'h' should pull up help information.
:
:- Enter key should step forward a single line in news article.
:
:- Access to common functions from a pull-down menu.
:
:- The display of how many new articles are available should be updated
: after each article is read, or at least after exiting a newsgroup.
: Currently, I sometimes can't remember if I've read all the news in
: a particular group or not, because the number of new articles does not
: change until exiting dnews and then re-entering dnews.
:
:- Actually, I'm not sure if you support the arrow keys for moving through
: text. If you don't it would be nice if you did.
row should include line offset base (subject list select)
Subject list - restrict on follow ?
[m]essage, allow rescan. Currently marks msgs read and then doesn't
let you go through the references again (because they have
been marked read)
goto ?
matt,
here's a suggestion for dnews that you might include in a later
version:
after selecting a group to read from the first menu, display a
directory of the new messages, in numerical order, and have the command
set modified at this point so as to accept a command letter and message
number (or range) in a command line. for instance, r 356-387, to read
messages 356 through 387. then, when reading messages, the original
command set interface would be in effect, i.e., single letter commands
with no visible command line.
this would facilitate finding messages that are of interest,
since most people scan the subject line as they cruise through, anyway,
instead of reading every message. with a group like comp.sys.amiga, and
other large groups, this saves time.
also, it would be a boon to be able to use a command like "w 350-390"
to write all those message to a file, then parse the file with an editor to
find a specific string, or to append multiple image files for display.
if you have access to a vax, this is taken from seeeing the vnews
program in action.

:While I have gotten used to the "shopping list" approach (vs. vnews sequencing),
:it would be real nice if dnews would not display newsgroups with zero articles. I
:get a pretty complete feed and the display gets rather "noisy".
:
:I would also like to see dnews remove group names from the "menu" as their articles
:are "consumed" (an updated article count for partial reading would be nice, too).
:
:The vnews program (rn, too?) has a -x option which causes article history to be
:ignored. This would be a nice addition, rather than having to edit the history file.
:
:When reading the last article in a news group, one is forced to switch from using
:the keyboard to clicking the reader's close gadget. I think it would be appropriate
:for the 'n' (or space) key to automatically close the window and return to the
:article list when the last article in a group is read. Also, a 'q' (quit reading
:this group) key would be nice.
