  91.     here's a suggestion for dnews that you might include in a later
  92. version:
  93.     after selecting a group to read from the first menu, display a
  94. directory of the new messages, in numerical order, and have the command
  95. set modified at this point so as to accept a command letter and message
  96. number (or range) in a command line.  for instance, r 356-387, to read
  97. messages 356 through 387.  then, when reading messages, the original
  98. command set interface would be in effect, i.e., single letter commands
  99. with no visible command line.
  100.     this would facilitate finding messages that are of interest,
  101. since most people scan the subject line as they cruise through, anyway,
  102. instead of reading every message.  with a group like comp.sys.amiga, and
  103. other large groups, this saves time.
  104.     also, it would be a boon to be able to use a command like "w 350-390"
  105. to write all those message to a file, then parse the file with an editor to
  106. find a specific string, or to append multiple image files for display.
  107.     if you have access to a vax, this is taken from seeeing the vnews
  108. program in action.

  115. :While I have gotten used to the "shopping list" approach (vs. vnews sequencing),
  116. :it would be real nice if dnews would not display newsgroups with zero articles. I
  117. :get a pretty complete feed and the display gets rather "noisy".

  120. :are "consumed" (an updated article count for partial reading would be nice, too).

  122. :The vnews program (rn, too?) has a -x option which causes article history to be
  123. :ignored. This would be a nice addition, rather than having to edit the history file.

  125. :When reading the last article in a news group, one is forced to switch from using
  126. :the keyboard to clicking the reader's close gadget. I think it would be appropriate
  127. :for the 'n' (or space) key to automatically close the window and return to the
  128. :article list when the last article in a group is read. Also, a 'q' (quit reading
  129. :this group) key would be nice.
