- ~PD CORNER~ This issue we add two new disks to our list. Disk 6 is a
- ~By Doug Walker~ a HACK-like game ported from UNIX by Edmund Burnette of the
- Software Distillery. Ed has done a truly fantastic job on
- this port. LARN uses the same kind of graphical icons that HACK does, but it has
- many more icons. HACK addicts will take to LARN instantly. Disk 5 is an assort-
- ment of programs, listed below:
-
- ~FASTCHOP~is a replacement for FIXOBJ. When files are downloaded with XMODEM,
- garbage characters are added to pad the file to even 128-byte chunks. AmigaDOS
- doesn't like these characters, so FIXOBJ and FASTCHOP were written to fix up the
- object files. FASTCHOP fixes the file in place on the disk and therefore is
- faster than FIXOBJ. FASTCHOP was written by Jeff Rush of the Rising Star BBS,
- 214-231-1372. We thank Elliott Hammett for putting us onto it.
-
- ~SECMAP~displays a sector allocation map of a diskette. Allocated sectors are
- shown in one color and free sectors in another.
-
- ~CLUE~is a computer adaptation of the famous board game, written by Greg Pryor.
- This is a really nice job; the graphics are very good.
-
- ~MISSILE~is an implementation of a Missile Command game, all done in Assembler
- by Glenn Merriman of 5602 Oak Trail, Houston, TX. He offers the source code for
- a $5 contribution plus $3 if he supplies the disk and return postage.<
-
- ~MEMWATCH~is a utility developed by John Toebes of the Software Distillery which
- should prove useful for heavy-duty developers. It takes a snapshot of the low
- 100 (hex) bytes of memory, then checks every 20 milliseconds or so to see if
- anything has been stomped on by a buggy program. If it has, it fixes the problem
- and throws up a requester telling you about it.
-
- Three different~CLOCKS~are provided: a 24-hour clock that fits in the title bar
- of your workbench screen, a normal 12-hour bar clock, and a sprite clock which
- appears once a minute in front of all screens.
-
- ~MEMGRAB~takes over all expansion memory, allowing programs which require chip
- memory only to load properly in a machine with more than 512K of memory.<
-
- ~SCRIMPER~is Perry Kivolowitz's screen dumper program. It is smaller and easier
- to use than SCREENDUMP (from disk # 1).
-
- ~JUGGLER~is an incredible ray-traced animation of a man-like thing juggling
- three steel balls. It is displayed in the Amiga's Hold-and-Modify (HAM) mode,
- allowing all 4096 colors to be on the screen simultaneously--a MUST see.<
-
- ~WBRUN~is another utility by John Toebes of the Distillery. It allows workbench
- applications to be run from the CLI even if workbench is not loaded. For exam-
- ple, a BASIC program could be run this way. As far as the target program knows,
- you clicked on its icon; instead, you used WBRUN!
-
- ~One-Megabyte Memory Expansion:~ Complete instructions are included for building
- this, with an optional battery-backed up clock. Design by Michel Fellinger.<
-
- ~STAT~is a replacement for the workbench STATUS command which gives more infor-
- mation about running processes than STATUS does.
-
- That about wraps it up for this issue; I hope to be seeing your disk requests in
- the mail soon!
