  6. Travel to France is
  7. especially easy for the
  8. Uk traveller or holiday
  9. maker with ample sea and
  10. air connections - and
  11. soon with the opening
  12. of the Channel Tunnel we
  13. shall see the first land
  14. connection in history
  15. between the UK as an
  16. island and the continent.

  18. France for the holiday-
  19. maker holds many
  20. attractive areas and
  21. increasingly the UK
  22. traveller is ranging
  23. further and further afield.
  24. In the 1930's and post war,
  25. the only place visited by
  26. most British visitors was
  27. the Riviera (south of
  28. France - the Cote D'Azur)
  29. and although this still
  30. remains an attractive if
  31. not somewhat expensive
  32. destination,increasingly
  33. it is to Normandy,
  34. Brittany, the Loire and
  35. other coastal and country
  36. areas that the British
  37. are flocking to.

  39. The gite holiday usually
  40. coupled with a motoring
  41. arrangement is very very
  42. popular at the moment.
  43. Gites are good value for
  44. money especially if they
  45. are occupied by a large
  46. family grouping.

  48. Gites are to be found
  49. throughout France and
  50. range from Chateaux and
  51. converted farmhouses to
  52. purpose built gites.

  54. CAMPING and CARAVANNING
  55. are also a  holiday
  56. alternative for those on
  57. a more limited budget and
  58. French camp sites have a
  59. fairly high standard of
  60. amenities and convenuiences.

  62. CITY BREAKS to Paris are
  63. an all the year round
  64. possibility,and although
  65. Paris can be expensive,
  66. the actual cost of a weekend
  67. break there, especially by
  68. coach or rail is often quite
  69. reasonable.

  72. a visit to include:
  73. Tours/Lourdes/Nice/
  74. Rheims/Strasbourg/Orleans
  75. Rouen and Bordeaux.

  77. CLIMATE: Long,dry summers
  78. followed by wet winters,
  79. especially in the South.
  80. The east can be very cold
  81. in winter.There can be
  82. quite a temperature
  83. difference between the
  84. south and the north
  85. of France.
  86. In winter the French
  87. alps are major ski
  88. areas with classic
  89. resorts such as Les
  90. Arcs,Courcheval and
  91. Valmorel attracting the
  92. cream of the European
  93. ski community.
