TRAVELLING WEST
AFRICA
West Africa covers a
lot of countries and
to be fair to the
prosepective traveller,
not many of them are
waht you might call
- user friendly.
On the whole West
African coast,only
the Gambia has made it
in a limited way as a
target destination
for the holidaymaker
from the UK.
GAMBIA
Situated on the
Atlantic coast on
Africa's "bulge",
the Gambia is a
long narrow country
and all the
interesting bits for
a traveller wind
along the Gambia
River which flows
into the sea from
up country at Sutokoba.
Banjul, the capital
and main airport of
the country lies on
the coast (this was
originally called
Bathurst in the
good old days).
Banjul is a
lively and colour-
ful place and its
teeming streets
are alive with people
and traders.
Beaches:
The Atlantic Coast to
the south of Banjul
boasts some of the
finest beaches in
Africa,with no less
than 15 hotels in
the area.
Air:
The national airline
is Gambia Airways and
there are regular
charter and
scheduled flights
from the UK.
Approc flight time
from London is
only 5 hours.
Despite some problems
the Gambia is a
relatively safe place
for the tourist and
many UK operators now
feature a Gambia

Thomsons Worldwide
and many others...

runs from November
through to May.
