****************************************************************************
Welcome to a Zaksystems product.
My aim is to give you entertaining graphic stories that are a little
different from the usual run-of-the-mill comic strips.
I also try to present them in an easy-to-view format that works on ALL
Amigas.
This disk should even work on machines with only 512k but I'm afraid that
I can't test this. Anyway, what are you doing with such a small memory,
you must be the last person in the world without at least 1mb !

No soundtrack is included as (a) There wasn't enough room, and (b) I'm
a pretty dodgy musician. If anybody wants to send me tunes to put on
coming disks then please do, but remember that small is beautiful and
rave-style music doesn't suit this sort of material. Thanks.

ARTIST INFORMATION
------------------
POKERFACE
Pokerface was written by Bernie Mireault in 1989. Drawn in inks it was
extremely difficult to get a `clean' scan and therefore required a lot
of time to tidy up. Some pages took as long as 1 hour per frame of
slow pixel-pushing to get to veiwable quality. I have tried not to
alter any of the original artworks' style and so if you think that
any pictures look odd it's because they are supposed to look that way !
Bernie's main influences were Klaus Jansen and John Buscema's `Tarzan'
(Marvel Comics) and John Buscema's later works. It was the form that
was more compelling than the content. Bernie says, "I always wanted to
see somebody go to the bathroom...but it just never happened!" The human
element was always missing. His characters live a full life outside of
the comic page, the details of their existence enriching the tale but
never cluttering it.
ED THE HAPPY CLOWN
Ed is taken from a full book of the same name by Chester Brown, and was
drawn in ink. As with POKERFACE the hand drawn style does not scan in
easily, but I am afraid that constraints of time have prevented any
touching up of the images. Nevertheless, I hope you still enjoy it.
I have included this short story as an example of how a full story
can be told in the minimum amount of space whilst still being highly
entertaining.
Chester Brown's work has been described as;
"Surrealism combined with a serenely deadpan sense of humour.."
(Ken Tucker)
"Black, funny, hopeless, pushing constantly to the boundaries of
content, style and taste. Hideous and brilliant."
(Fiona Jerome)

-------------------
All pictures were scanned onto a PC (yeuck) using a Hewlett-Packard
Scanjet IIc, converted to GIF87a on my mates (Hary Parms) PC (o.k it's
a 486dx but it's still a dog), ported to my 6mb A1200 (God, I wish I had
a hard drive) using Gifmachine. DPaint IV was used for b&w pictures.
Slideshow pictures converted to HAM using Art Department, the quality
improvement over DPaints' conversions is immense.
