Welcome to the 17-Bit Continuation on CD-ROM for Amiga / CDTV.
This disc is the update to our first 17-Bit Collection CD double-pack,
and contains images of over 500 disks from 17-Bit's own collection as
well as disk selections from the Assassins, Amigan, ARUG and NZ
collection. Over £700 worth of disks in all.
Due to the memory limitations of the CDTV, the CDTVCopier and AmigaCopier
programs have cut-down catalogue files in that there are no description
texts covering the first two CDs. However, in the AmigaCopier.1Meg+
program, the full catalogue is present. This allows enhanced string
searches to be made.
Erratum to the printed instructions: When running the CDTVCopier,
'Repeat search' is available via the REW [<<] and FF [>>] controls on
the remote control.
To write out disks from the CD to floppy, make sure the CD-ROM is
loaded, and if over a network (eg ParNet), make sure that the root
directory is assigned as 17bitC: before running the copier. If you
plan to use the disks from the earlier CD set, you will also need the
17BitA: and 17BitB: assignments available to the machine you are
running the copier on. Across ParNet, this is set up with the
following. MAKE SURE YOU CHANGE DISKS BEFORE COPYING FILES FROM EARLIER
DISCS.
assign 17BitA: net:cd0/
assign 17BitB: net:cd0/
You will need a floppy disk drive, disks are only written out to df0:
Please note that although all disks have been tested, some contain bad
language that some viewers may find offensive, and some may not work
on all Amiga configurations. Many disks will only work properly on
PAL (Europe, UK, Australia) systems. If your Amiga system supports
both NTSC and PAL video, try using PAL.
Although we have tried very hard to test all disks in this package for
compatbility, we cannot guarantee every disk will work on your system,
and we cannot offer any telephone or mail support for any of the
public domain disks.
If you have problems running the copier, make sure you disable any
virus checkers, trackdisk monitors or other programs that monitor disk
access, as these can prevent correct copying of disks. It may also be
necessary to kill surplus background tasks and shut redundant windows
to free up more memory to the program.
If you prefer to extract files via the Shell/CLI, or with a directory
utility (eg Directory Opus), then copy to your hard disk DMS111.SFX,
and run it. This will self-extract to give you DMS, which you can use
to decrunch the files on the disc.
Due to the variety of the 17-Bit disks, and the Assassins collection
generally running via a custom menu system, they have been archived.
The Amigan, ARUG and NZ disks, however, are far more suited to direct
access, and so we've left them unpacked as well as archived. Please
note, however, that the default tools on the icons have NOT been
adjusted - this is so the disks can be manually reconstructed onto
blank, formatted, installed floppies. To check out individual disk
contents and data, we recommend a good directory tool such as
Directory Opus, DiskMaster, SID, or one of the million DirOpus-clones
that infest the disks on this CD.
