M A S Q U E R A D E
-------------------
Please read the following; it will help you to get started
with Masquerade, and contains information on how to win a
reasonably-startling prize!
\HOW TO PLAY
HOW TO PLAY
-----------
At first glance, Masquerade may seem a little complicated.
Once you have had a few goes it will clarify quickly.
The game is split into four different Worlds.
Each World has ten levels.
Once loaded select "Start New Game" by pressing fire.
The first world is loaded and you are presented with the names
of each of the ten levels. Moving the joystick up or down
highlights one of the levels and fire selects. This is done
so that you can try any of the levels rather than being
constrained to playing them in order. (Levels which have been
completed are dimmed, and are not selectable)
Once the level is loaded another screen is displayed.
On the Right you will see a red "M" with the number three beneath.
This is your player block and the current number of lives.
Below that, a blue diamond and another number.
To complete each level it is necessary to collect this number of
diamonds before you can use the exit to escape.
The number of diamonds required varies from level to level
(Usually between 0 and 10)
You will see the red "M" (player block) again within the game
screen. This is you. Move the joystick to travel around the screen.
Sound Easy?
There are, as you will see, several other types of objects on
screen:
Name Action Appears on World 1 as:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Faller Will fall down the Portcullis
screen when until
it lands on something
Lefter/Righter Moves Left/Right until Knights Head
something blocks it
TNT Falls is the same way Barrel
as a Faller, but will
explode if another object
lands on it
Dolly Will travel in a Coat of Arms on a shield
direction when you push
it, and keep moving until
it is blocked
Bonus Several (see below) Flag
Exit Once you have collected Castle and word EXIT
ALL the diamonds. Step
into it to complete the
level
Wall 1 Indestructible block Large dark brick wall
Wall 2 Can only be destroyed Large lighter coloured
by pushing/dropping brick wall
another object on/through
it
Wall 3 Can only be destroyed by Wall made of thin bricks
you walking through it
Got all that?
In addition there are these simple actions;
Lefter/Righters can be pushed, one space at a time, up or down.
Fallers/TNT can be pushed left or right one block at a time.
TNT will explode another TNT block when dropped on it.
Fallers explode TNT blocks when dropped on them.
Lefters/Righters will explode TNT blocks if allowed to move
left/right into them.
EXPLOSIONS
----------
When an explosion occurs. A portion of screen is wiped out in a
square totalling nine blocks (3x3) around the TNT. This wipes out
everything (including diamonds, exits and yourself). In fact
the only thing that survives is (predictably) an indestructible
(type 1) wall. Watch Out!
BONUS EFFECTS
-------------
There are several actions a bonus will produce when collected
and they vary from level to level. You will only know which
when you collect them.
1. Reverse Controls. Designed to annoy. Moving left will move
right. Moving up will move down etc.
2. Bonus Exit. You will notice that some screens seem to
have no exit. It is hidden. Collecting this
bonus will reveal it. (note: you can use an
exit when it is invisible, you just need to
know where it is.
3. Bomb. When collected, every WALL on screen will
simultaneously explode. This is the only
time you can destroy a type 1 wall
4. Extra Life. A rare beast. Only 2 in the entire game
One extra life is awarded when collected.
\PASSWORDS
PASSWORDS
---------
Providing you have completed world one before you die, you are given
a password. You are also given a password when each World is complete.
From the options screen; Select "Enter Password" then move the
joystick up/down to show the correct letter then fire once to select
it (you've seen all this before, no doubt) this will take you to
the World on which you died with the number of lives with which
you entered it.
To save time if a password has been given in the game. The Options
screen will contain an extra option. "Continue World". This produces
the same result.
HOW TO DIE - QUICKLY
--------------------
1. Let a Faller/TNT land on your head.
2. Let a Lefter/Righter smack into you.
3. Stand next to some TNT when it explodes.
4. Blow up the exit. So you can't escape.
IF YOU GET STUCK (you will)
---------------------------
If you have blown up the exit or a few needed diamonds or become
stuck in a portion of screen and have no way to complete the level.
PRESS FIRE. This escapes back to the "Choose a level" bit.
This costs a life unfortunately.
\WORLDS
ANOTHER WORLD!
--------------
Hopefully I have explained what each of the objects do and don't
on the levels. When you complete a world you will find that these
blocks, while having the same characteristics, have substantially
changed their appearance. (Well, yeah! That's the idea!)
This table should help if you get totally frustrated.
WORLD ONE WORLD TWO WORLD THREE WORLD FOUR

Create a drawer and copy in the folders from disks 2 and three
the program icon from disk one and set up assigns for the drawers
