So, it's disk 4. Woooo. Once again, raid ze fridge for a can or 3, and
then read on:
The frontend is basically the same, bar a few minor changes as I moved up
to SAS 6.51 and the 'goto' statements pranged the compiler. I thought
Jolyon was above that. Oh well. Fixing these resulted in the progress
indicator screwing up <the way it works is a kludge of the first order
anyway>, so I had to double-kludge it, which is why it's more jerky now.
As last time, the entire catalogue is online. In the full version it's now
just under 500k of raw text, so for the CDTV/A570 version it's back to the
cut-down methods again. CD³² gets the full thing, tho'. And search is
available as usual. After a few "Your colourscheme is kack" comments from
around the globe, Jolyon suggested a blue-grey hue. Palestines, they don't
appreciate my art.
Disks online? 17-Bit sent us 2801 onwards to continue from 17BitC: - no
special collections this time, as their other ones have been done before,
and Assassins look like they're doing their own CD. <Yeah, we had requests
for Legal Tools and the like, but twasn't 2B>. Dan ze Scan was tied to a
heavy object and forced to archive the lot up, on the threat of one of my
jokes.
Yeah, there's a few rewrites in the catalogue again. And we're still going
with DMS1.11. Why change a losing game?
Those of you multitasking the system may notice that c: is assigned to
RAM: when the copier is running - this is to avoid problems with
floppy-and-CD-only systems which can't use C: for 'run' <off the system
disk> when there has to be a DMS output disk in the drive. If you've got a
hard drive and wanna multitask, copy the fonts on this CD across to fonts:,
and copy the command 'DMS' to RAM: before you start. Thus you can ditch a
lot of the assignments <the 'C:', 'FONTS:', 'T:', 'tmpT:', tmpFONTS:' and
'tmpC:' stuff in the copier startup scripts>, and multitask as normal.
Have a look at the script file 17BitCopier.HDorNet, and delete the first
lines of assigns which are supplied for ParNet. You need to assign 17BitA:
and the like when changing CDs, not before, or they'll just get routed to
17BitD: and thus not work - you get a "Insert Volume Network" requester.
Another CD, another spiel. Rock 'n' something else.
